The 2023 WNBA All-Star Weekend has arrived, and the action got started in thrilling fashion on Friday with the Skills Challenge and 3-Point Contest. Chelsea Gray and Kelsey Plum led Team Aces to the title in the former, before Sabrina Ionescu stole the show with the greatest 3-Point Contest performance we've ever seen.
Still to come is the All-Star Game on Saturday night, which will be contested between Team Wilson and Team Stewart. The league is once again using the captains picks format, and A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart earned that honor for the second consecutive season. Here's everything you need to know about the game:
All-Star Game
- Date: Saturday, July 15 | Time: 8:30 p.m. ET
- Location: Michelob Ultra Arena -- Las Vegas
- TV: ABC | Live stream: fubo (Try for free)
For the second consecutive year, the league is using the captain's picks format, and for the second consecutive year the captains are A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart. That superstar duo earned the honor by virtue of receiving the most fan votes. They recently completed their All-Star draft and the rosters for the event are now set.
In order to add a bit of excitement to the night, the league has introduced some special rules for the game.
- 4-Point shot: There will be four circles on the court, each 28 feet from the basket, and if a player makes a shot while in contact with one of them it will be worth four points.
- Shorter shot clock: The shot clock will be shortened to 20 seconds for the game. After an offensive rebound it will still reset to 14 seconds.
- No free throws: In the event of a personal or technical foul that would result in free throws, the player will be automatically awarded the maximum points available given the situation. This rule will not apply in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter and the entirety of overtime, however.
Here's a look at the full rosters (starters in bold):
Note: Reigning Rookie of the Year Rhyne Howard was named as an injury replacement for Elena Delle Donne, who will miss out with a sprained ankle.
