The 2024 Paris Olympics schedule on Sunday is packed with more gold medals on the line in track & field, tennis, swimming and 3x3 basketball. Sweden's Sarah Stostrom (-1050) is one of the day's biggest favorites on the day in the women's swimming 50-meter freestyle event, which gets underway at 12:30 p.m. ET. Gretchen Walsh (+1400) of the United States is considered among her main competitors with Australia's Shyna Jack (+1900) and Poland's Kasia Wasick (+2100) also in the mix.

After dominating men's tennis for nearly a decade, Serbia's Novak Djokovic comes in at +210 in the gold medal match at 8 a.m. ET. But a good reason for those plus-odds is the play of his men's singles final opponent, Carlos Alcaraz (-280). The 21-year-old from Spain has been on a roll, claiming back-to-back grand slam championships. Before locking in any 2024 Summer Olympics picks on those events or others, you need to see what SportsLine Olympic insider Mike Tierney has to say.

A national sportswriter whose work appears in The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, Tierney has covered nine Olympic Games in person. At Rio in 2016, Tierney profited big-time. He told readers to bet over on Team USA's gold medal count (41.5) and over on Team USA's overall medal count (102.5). The result? 46 golds, 121 medals and two easy cashes. Then, at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Tierney hit two of his three predictions: Germany (+200) to win the most gold medals and the United States winning under 10.5 gold medals (+110). Anybody following has seen some big returns.

Now, Tierney has broken down the 2024 Olympics from every possible angle and revealed his best bets for Sunday, Aug. 4. He has one men's track and field, one men's singles tennis, one women's and one men's swimming, and one men's 3-on-3 basketball selection. You can visit SportsLine now to see his 2024 Summer Olympics picks

Top 2024 Paris Olympics picks for Sunday, August 4

One of Tierney's best bets for Sunday: He's backing American Noah Lyles in the men's 100-meter dash. After a disappointing showing in the heats, Lyles saw his odds drop to +240. Tierney sees this as an opportunity and is backing the athlete, who he thinks can make the needed adjustments to earn gold. Lyles is coming off a gold medal in the 100-meter dash at the World Championships in Hungary in 2023.

"Stunningly, a sloppy effort in the heats has demoted the American from clear-cut favorite status and sent his odds soaring," Tierney told SportsLine. "It's an overreaction to Lyles' 12th best time in the heats (10.4 seconds). Lyles can make corrections in the semis. Kishane Thompson of Jamaica clocked a slower time than a half-dozen entrants yet has risen to the favorite's role. Unless Lyles is ailing -- no indication that he is -- the +240 is a steal." See the rest of Tierney's picks here
