  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Two helpers Saturday

Burns recorded a pair of assists, two hits, a blocked shot and one shot on goal in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over the Maple Leafs. Now with just 35 points in 67 games, Burns is having an off-year following his 61-point season in 2022-23. It may be that Father Time has finally caught up with the 38-year-old blueliner, who is now in his 19th NHL season. For now, he continues to see healthy minutes with an average TOI of 21:48, although this represents a decline from his previous two seasons (23:13 and 26:08, respectively).

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Strikes on power play

Burns scored a power-play goal in Monday's 6-3 win over the Blackhawks. Burns had gone 15 games without a goal and four contests without a point before tallying in the third period Monday. The 38-year-old defenseman hasn't had the same level of scoring dominance this year as he's had in past years -- he's at nine goals and 31 points through 55 outings. Burns has added 135 shots on net, 51 blocked shots and a plus-15 rating, and while his offense is down, he's still seeing top-four minutes.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Two helpers in Thursday's win

Burns delivered two assists, one on the power play, in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Avalanche. The veteran blueliner had a hand in a Martin Necas tally in the first period and a Michael Bunting strike in the second. Burns has found the scoresheet in three straight games, and since the calendar flipped to 2024 he's produced two goals and 11 points in 13 games, with half of that offense (one goal and five helpers) coming on the power play.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Registers PP helper Saturday

Burns generated a power-play assist in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Coyotes. Burns is now up to 27 points (8G, 19A) in 48 games, putting him on pace for about a 45-point season. The days of getting 70-80 points out of Burns are gone, but he's still a decent blueliner for fantasy purposes. He's currently averaging about 21 minutes per game skating on the Canes' top defensive pairing opposite Jaccob Slavin.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Three-point night Friday

Burns scored two goals, one on the power play, and added a power-play assist in Friday's 6-2 win over the Capitals. The veteran blueliner kicked off a comeback from a 2-0 deficit early in the second period, sneaking in off the point and tapping home a slick feed from Andrei Svechnikov. Burns flipped the switch after Christmas -- he has three multi-point performances in the last five games, racking up three goals and nine points over that stretch, to break out of a slump that had seen him manage just two helpers over his prior 11 contests.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Three helpers against Habs

Burns collected three assists with one shot on net, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Canadiens. The three points were a season high for the veteran blueliner. Burns was quiet through most of December, managing just two points (both helpers) over the 11 games prior to Christmas, but the holiday break seems to have done him good -- he's broken out for a goal and five points in the last two contests. On the season, Burns has six goals and 19 points through 36 games.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Adds two points in win

Burns notched a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 5-2 victory over the Predators. Both of Burns' points came on the man advantage, setting up Sebastian Aho's opening tally in the first period before adding a goal later in the frame, beating Juuse Saros with a wrist shot through traffic. It'd been a quiet month for Burns offensively -- he had just two assists in his previous 11 games. Overall, the 38-year-old blueliner is up to six goals and 16 points through 35 games this season.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Slings helper in loss

Burns logged an assist in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Canucks. Burns snapped a three-game point drought with the helper. He's been limited to four assists over his last nine outings. The Hurricanes' inconsistency isn't helping his game, but it's also very possible the 38-year-old's age is catching up with his ability to be a force on offense. He's racked up a solid 13 points, 63 shots on net, 25 blocked shots and a plus-8 rating through 27 outings, but he'll be hard-pressed to match the 18-goal, 61-point campaign he recorded last season.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Hits major career milestone

Burns had two assists in a 6-2 win over Buffalo on Saturday. Burns now has 600 career helpers in the NHL. He's the 17th defender in league history, and only active defender, to hit that milestone. Burns has 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 23 games, which puts him into the NHL's top-40 scorers from the blue line. He's off his 61-point pace from last season, which could be a sign of age-related decline, but he stands a chance to get back on track if he continues to pile up shots.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Five shots in win

Burns recorded five shots on goal to go along with two blocked shots in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Flyers. The six-time All-Star has hit his stride in the past six games, recording two goals and one assist. Burns has also registered 16 shots on goal in this span to go along with eight blocked shots. The 38-year-old is still playing heavy minutes -- he's averaging 20:30 of ice time over the last six contests. He should continue to skate on the first pairing alongside Jaccob Slavin while quarterbacking the top power-play unit.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Snaps eight-game point drought

Burns had a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win Saturday over Tampa Bay. The points snapped an eight-game point drought. The goal was a big one -- it was Burns' 248th NHL goal, which pushed him past Hall of Famer Brian Leetch for ninth on the league's all-time goals list for defensemen. Burns has just six points (three goals, three assists) in 15 games this season, which is a big drop from his 61-point total from last year. It's unclear if the drop is age-related, a complete fluke or the wear-and-tear from 1,348 regular season games and another 109 in the postseason. It could be worth monitoring, though.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Puts away power-play goal

Burns scored a power-play goal on two shots and went plus-2 in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Avalanche. Burns' goal tied the game at 2-2 just before the midway mark of the second period. The 38-year-old defenseman has recorded three of his four points this season on the power play. He's added a plus-2 rating, eight blocked shots and 14 shots on net while forming a high-end pairing with Jaccob Slavin.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Adds power-play assist

Burns notched a power-play assist, two shots on goal and a minus-3 rating in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Ducks. Burns has gotten on the scoresheet in each of the last two games, posting a goal and an assist. He's added six shots on net, three blocked shots and a minus-2 rating through three contests overall. Five of the Hurricanes' six defensemen had an assist in this contest, though Burns' presence on the top pairing and first power-play unit keeps his ceiling the highest of the group in fantasy.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Opens scoring Saturday

Burns scored a goal on two shots and added three blocked shots in Saturday's 6-5 shootout win over the Kings. Burns was held off the scoresheet in the season opener Wednesday, but he made an early impact in the second game of the year. He tallied at the 4:15 mark of the first period. The 38-year-old defenseman saw 26:04 of ice time Saturday as the Hurricanes returned to a traditional lineup rather than the 11/7 group they used in the opener. Burns figures to be a key part of the offense yet again after posting 18 goals and 61 points over 82 contests last season.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Earns power-play helper

Burns logged a power-play assist, eight shots on goal, nine blocked shots, five hits, two PIM and a minus-2 rating in Thursday's 3-2 quadruple-overtime loss to the Panthers in Game 1. Burns led the Hurricanes with 54:43 of ice time, which is no small feat for a 38-year-old. He's picked up two goals and two assists over his last three contests since he snapped a five-game drought. The blueliner has nine points, 49 shots, 21 hits, 23 blocked shots, 14 PIM and a plus-6 rating through 12 playoff outings as the Hurricanes' most effective scoring threat on defense.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Scores in two straight games

Burns scored late in the second period during Carolina's 3-2 overtime win against the Devils on Thursday. Burns has played great this postseason, but it hasn't always showed up on the scoresheet. He has goals in two straight games, which is what you want from the offensive defender. Yet, those are the only two goals he has through 11 postseason contests. The goals come on the heels of five straight games without a single point. He hasn't been the electric offensive threat managers hope they're rostering when they think of Burns' reputation.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Gets two points in victory

Burns had a goal and an assist in a 6-1 win over New Jersey in Game 4 on Tuesday. Burns ended his five-game point drought and nine-contest goal-scoring slump. His latest marker came midway through the second period, extending the Hurricanes' lead to 5-1. Burns has a goal and seven points in 10 postseason appearances this year.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Stays hot Wednesday

Burns registered two assists in Carolina's 4-3 overtime victory over the Islanders in Game 2 on Wednesday. Burns picked up a pair of helpers for the second straight playoff contest and has contributed four goals and eight points over his last five outings. The red-hot defenseman was a major offensive force for Carolina throughout the regular season, supplying 18 goals and 61 points in 82 appearances. Even at the age of 38, Burns is well-suited for his role on Carolina's top pairing and first power-play unit.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Two assists in Game 1

Burns recorded a pair of power-play assists in Monday's 2-1 win over the Islanders. Burns teed up Sebastian Aho for the opening goal early in the first period before grabbing a second assist in the second, when Stefan Noesen deflected his shot past Ilya Sorokin to extend Carolina's lead to 2-0. Burns was productive in his first year with the Hurricanes, tallying 18 goals, 43 assists and a plus-19 rating while playing all 82 games.

  • Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Lights lamp twice in win

Burns scored two goals in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Panthers. The 38-year-old defenseman heads into the postseason with plenty of momentum, scoring four goals in the last three games. Burns finishes his first regular season in Carolina with 18 goals and 61 points through 82 games, his best scoring performance since he racked up 83 points for San Jose in 2018-19.
