  • Penguins' Filip Hallander: Signs with Timra

    Hallander signed a five-year contract with Timra of the Swedish League on Friday, Seth Rorabaugh of TribLive.com reports. Hallander was selected in the second round -- 58th overall -- of the 2018 draft by the Penguins. He has spent most of the last two seasons with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, playing three games at the NHL level. He had 25 goals and 36 assists in 104 AHL contests and will return back to his native Sweden. Hallander is a restricted free agent, and the Penguins can retain his NHL rights by offering him a qualifying offer.

  • Penguins' Filip Hallander: Sent back to AHL

    Hallander was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Thursday. With Jason Zucker (undisclosed) and Jake Guentzel (undisclosed) both game-time decisions going into Thursday's contest against Dallas, Hallander was summoned from the AHL. Ultimately, Guentzel and Zucker ended up in the lineup, so Hallander is swiftly returning to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he has 11 goals and 33 points in 40 appearances this season.

Hallander was injured in early January and required hospitalization for the injury. The 22-year-old's fairly quick return to the farm team's lineup is an encouraging sign, though he's probably not in line for a promotion to the NHL in the near future. The winger has 25 points through 26 games, ranking fourth in scoring for the Baby Pens despite his nearly month-long absence.

    Hallander (undisclosed) was released from the hospital Saturday after he was stretchered off the ice in AHL action Friday night. Hallander was injured late in the third period in a game against Charlotte. He went down against the boards and was subsequently taken to the hospital, where he was examined and eventually released to go home. There was 1:12 remaining in the contest when Hallander went down, and it was called final at that time. Hallander has eight goals and 25 points in 26 games with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season.
