Olofsson was assigned to AHL Colorado on Saturday, Ryan Boulding of NHL.com reports.
Olofsson's services are no longer required by the Avalanche because Zach Parise (lower body), Artturi Lehkonen (illness) and Jonathan Drouin (lower body) will return to the lineup Saturday versus Edmonton. The 27-year-old Olofsson has three goals and nine points in 57 NHL outings this season.

Olofsson has opened the season as the fourth-line center and part of the penalty-kill unit. However, his issues in the faceoff circle could impact his TOI and overall usage. He won just two of nine faceoffs in the season opener. He then went 0-for-11 over the next two games, including 0-for-6 when a man down. The center was removed from the top PK unit Tuesday. Possession can be crucial when operating on the penalty kill, and Olofsson isn't winning many draws in his own end (1-for-10 in defensive zone draws).

Avalanche's Fredrik Olofsson: Could be fourth-line center
Olofsson centered the fourth line during Monday's practice and appears to be the favorite to open the season in that role, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports.
Olofsson played mostly wing for the Stars last season, but the Avalanche want him in the middle, his primary position prior to last season in Dallas. He scored a goal on five shots in Sunday's game while getting regular work on the penalty-kill unit. "I think he's been really good at center. He's been really competitive on draws, he's a good two-way player, he's chipping in on the offensive side of it," Colorado head coach Jared Bednar told Rawal following Sunday's game. At Monday's practice session, Olofsson skated between Logan O'Connor and Andrew Cogliano (neck), two forwards that are locks for the fourth line.

Avalanche's Fredrik Olofsson: Dealt to Avs, inks one-year deal
Olofsson, who was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, was acquired by Colorado from Dallas on Thursday in exchange for future considerations and then signed a one-year deal with the Avalanche.
Olofsson had a goal and four points in 28 contests with the Stars in 2022-23. He also contributed five goals and 14 points in 37 games with AHL Texas. The 27-year-old will likely compete for a bottom-six spot with Colorado during training camp.
