Nylander was waived Sunday by Pittsburgh, according to CapFriendly, with the intention to send him to the AHL. Nylander had 14 goals and 40 points in 44 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL last season. He didn't appear in any games with Pittsburgh after he was acquired from Chicago.... See More ... Penguins' Alexander Nylander: Signs extension Monday
Nylander signed a one year, two-way deal with Pittsburgh on Monday. It is worth $750,000 at the NHL level. The 24-year-old was dealt to the Penguins organization in January and finished the remainder of the season with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he posted 32 points over 44 games. Nylander's best season to date came back in 2019-20, when he managed 26 points in 65 games with the Blackhawks. He was the eighth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft (Buffalo).... See More ... Penguins' Alexander Nylander: Dealt to Penguins
The Penguins acquired Nylander from Chicago on Wednesday in exchange for Sam Lafferty. Nylander has recorded eight goals and four assists in 23 AHL games this season. Injuries sidelined him for all of last season after a productive 2019-20 campaign in which he had 10 goals and 16 assists for the Blackhawks. It's unclear whether the 23-year-old will join the Penguins soon or play with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for a while.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Reassigned to AHL Rockford
Nylander was sent to AHL Rockford on Sunday, Charlie Roumeliotis of NBC Sports Chicago reports. Due to a knee injury (and subsequent surgery), Nylander didn't play a single game in 2020-21. However, in his first taste of full-time NHL duty the year prior, the 2016 No. 8 overall pick performed admirably to the tune of 26 points in 65 games. Look for Nylander to be back up with the Blackhawks before long.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Snags one-year contract
Nylander inked a one-year, $847,125 deal with Chicago on Monday. Nylander saw action in 65 games for the Hawks back in 2019-20 before missing the entirety of last season due to a knee injury. The winger should challenge for a top-six role during training camp, which would set him up to repeat the 26 points he put up in the 65 outings. Even if he doesn't crack the top six with consistency, Nylander should be in the lineup when fully fit and shouldn't have to worry about being a healthy scratch.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Will be ready for training camp
According to general manager Stan Bowman, Nylander (knee) will be "fully healed and ready to go by training camp," Mark Lazerus of The Athletic reports. Bowman also noted that he and the Blackhawks still see Nylander as a "real asset" for the team moving forward. The 23-year-old forward missed the entirety of the 2020-21 campaign after undergoing surgery in late December to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee, but he was decent for Chicago in 2019-20, notching 10 goals, 26 points and 94 shots in 65 contests. Nylander will compete for a spot in the Blackhawks' top six during next season's training camp.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Placed on LTIR
The Blackhawks placed Nylander (knee) on long-term injured reserve Tuesday. Nylander is expected to be sidelined until at least April after undergoing knee surgery in late December, so this move was expected. The 22-year-old winger, who's totaled 13 goals and 32 points in 84 NHL games since entering the league as a teenager in 2016, will be a restricted free agent following the 2020-21 campaign. He won't have much leverage at the bargaining table, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Nylander settle for his standard qualifying offer ahead of the 2021-22 season.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Out 4-6 months
Nylander underwent surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee Monday and will be sidelined for four to six months. The 2020-21 regular season will wrap up May 8, so at this point it seems more likely than not Nylander will miss the entirety of the campaign. This injury couldn't have come at a worse time for the 22-year-old winger, who's in the final year of his entry-level contract. Nylander has yet to live up to the hype as the eighth overall pick from the 2016 draft, having totaled just 13 goals and 32 points in 84 career NHL contests split between the Sabres and Blackhawks, so he'll likely have to settle for his qualifying offer next offseason. The Blackhawks will designate him as an injured non-roster player to begin the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Converts pair of goals
Nylander scored twice on four shots in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Flames. Nylander picked off a pass and beat David Rittich for his first goal at 5:28 of the second period, resulting in the Flames changing goalies. Nylander would then tally the Blackhawks' sixth goal of the contest later in the period, essentially securing the victory. The 21-year-old snapped a six-game point drought with the effort and now has eight tallies and 19 points in 53 outings.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Two-point effort ends slump
Nylander scored a goal and added an assist in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Jets. Nylander had just one assist over his last 10 appearances entering Sunday. He and Erik Gustafsson assisted on each other's first-period tallies. Nylander now has 17 points, 66 shots on goal and a minus-6 rating in 46 games. The 21-year-old hasn't yet shown off his first-round pick pedigree, but perhaps this could be the start of more consistent play going forward.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Supplies helper in loss
Nylander managed a power-play assist and two shots on goal in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Golden Knights. Nylander delivered the primary helper on Dominik Kubalik's goal in the final minute of the contest. The assist snapped a personal six-game point drought for Nylander. He's up to 11 points and 50 shots in 30 outings. With a lack of non-scoring stats -- 12 hits, seven blocked shots, six PIM -- Nylander's not much of a factor in the fantasy game yet.... See More ... Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Scores twice in third period
Nylander scored on both of his shots and was plus-3 in Saturday's 7-2 win over Nashville. Nylander scored back-to-back goals late in the third period, his third and fourth tallies of the season. The 21-year-old was stuck in a lengthy goal drought, having gone his previous 14 games without lighting the lamp. The eighth overall pick in 2016, Nylander has plenty of upside but hasn't yet put it all together i the NHL.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Pair of helpers in loss
Nylander had two assists and added two shots with a plus-2 rating in a 5-3 loss to Washington on Sunday. The 21-year-old set up goals by Drake Caggiula and Patrick Kane for his first multi-point outing as a Blackhawk. The former Buffalo first-rounder is off to a fairly productive start with his new organization, collecting two goals and two assists in his first five games. He had six points in 19 career games over parts of three seasons with the Sabres and is looking to revitalize his career. He was drafted eighth overall by Buffalo in 2016.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Buries game-winner
Nylander scored a goal on two shots in Monday's 3-1 win over the Oilers. Nylander's third-period tally became more important when James Neal got the Oilers on the board later in the frame. The tally was Nylander's second of the year in three games. The first-round pick from 2016 will need to continue to produce offense to move up the lineup before he becomes relevant in fantasy.... Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: First goal as a Blackhawk
Nylander scored on his lone shot on goal in Chicago's 4-3 loss to the Flyers on Monday. An offseason trade acquisition, Nylander found the net in his Blackhawks debut and displayed a goal-scorer's touch on his first-period snipe. The No. 8 pick from the 2016 draft, Nylander failed to gain any traction while with Buffalo and finished his Sabres tenure with just three goals and six points in 19 games over the past three seasons. Perhaps a fresh start with a new organization will unlock the talent that once made him a top-10 pick.... See More ... See Less -
Blackhawks' Alexander Nylander: Traded to Chicago
The Blackhawks acquired Nylander from the Sabres on Tuesday in exchange for defenseman Henri Jokiharju. The two clubs will exchange recent first-round picks, as Nylander (No. 8 overall in 2016) and Jokiharju (No. 29 overall in 2017) swap sides. Nylander, 21, appeared in 19 NHL contests over parts of the past three seasons, tallying three goals and three assists. The winger will be in the fold through the 2021-22 season and could have a greater opportunity to see ice time at hockey's top level in Chicago than would have been possible in Buffalo.... Sabres' Alexander Nylander: Should be ready for AHL playoffs
Nylander (lower body) is expected to be ready for the upcoming AHL playoffs, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports. Nylander will finish the 2018-19 campaign having totaled four points in 12 appearances with the big club. The eighth overall pick from the 2016 draft will hope to secure a regular role with the Sabres out of training camp next season.... See More ... See Less -
Sabres' Alexander Nylander: Dealing with LBI
Nylander won't play in Thursday's game against Ottawa and is considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury. The team announced that a cut in the back of Nylander's leg was ultimately going to keep him out of the game. The 21-year-old has been decent in his 12 games with the big club, accumulating four points in that span. In his stead, Johan Larsson will likely draw into the lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Sabres' Alexander Nylander: Scores first goal of season
Nylander scored his first goal of the season in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to Toronto. The goal was the second of Nylander's career -- he posted his first last April. It likely felt even sweeter to deposit his first of the year against brother William Nylander's squad. He's only appeared in five games for the Sabres this season, but has three points in his past two outings. Nylander has a high offensive ceiling, so it's encouraging that he's started putting some points on the board. His value is at its strongest in dynasty leagues, but he could become a worthwhile addition in standard leagues should he string a few more strong performances together.... See More ... See Less -
Sabres' Alexander Nylander: Makes impact in shootout win
Nylander notched two assists in Sunday's 4-3 shootout win over the Blues. The helpers were his first points in four games since being recalled from AHL Rochester. Nylander probably has as much raw offensive talent as his older brother William, but the 21-year-old Alexander simply isn't physically ready to be a consistent producer at the NHL level yet....
