  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Nabs helper in win

Bean notched an assist in Monday's 6-3 victory over the Golden Knights. Bean was able to end a five-game pointless streak but still hasn't managed to find the back of the net since Jan. 27 versus Vancouver, a stretch of 13 contests without a marker. Considering the 25-year-old defenseman hasn't recorded a shot in seven straight outings, fantasy players probably shouldn't be expecting him to generate much in the way of offensive output any time soon.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Puts away goal Saturday

Bean scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Canucks. Bean converted off a turnover created by Yegor Chinakhov's takeaway. With five points over his last 13 outings, Bean has at least put up respectable offense for a bottom-four defenseman lately. He's at eight points, 61 shots on net, 66 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating through 45 appearances, so most fantasy managers can do better for their defensive depth.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Gets rare point

Bean scored a goal Thursday in a 3-2 shootout win over the Flyers. Bean has three points, including two goals, in his last five games after wallowing through a 26-game point drought. But he also got danced by Travis Konecny on one of the Philly goals, exposing his defensive limits. Bean has the skating and offensive skills to contribute fantasy points, but at 25, he's yet to play a full NHL season. Don't over-invest. That drought is still too fresh.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Point drought at 23 games

Bean recorded two blocked shots, a shot on net and a hit in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Panthers. The 25-year-old blueliner continues to draw a regular shift for Columbus with Damon Severson (oblique) and Adam Boqvist (shoulder) both on injured reserve, but Bean hasn't done much with his opportunities. He's gone 23 games without registering a point, last getting onto a scoresheet with an assist Oct. 24 against the Ducks. During that drought, he's recorded 30 blocked shots, 25 shots on goal, 10 PIM, eight hits and a minus-7 rating. Despite his pedigree as the 13th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Bean has never been able to make an impact in the NHL, and he seems unlikely to be brought back as a restricted free agent next season given his current $2.3 million salary.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Bends twine Thursday

Bean scored a goal on two shots versus the Flyers on Thursday. Bean managed just one goal in 14 matches last season, so fantasy players shouldn't expect him to start scoring with regularity. Still, during the 2021-22 campaign, the blueliner played significantly more games (67) and racked up seven goals over that stretch.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Ready to return

Bean (shoulder) is expected to play in Wednesday's preseason game against Buffalo. Bean will make his 2023 exhibition debut after being out with an abductor strain since the beginning of training camp. He produced six points, 16 shots on goal, 21 blocked shots and 13 hits in 14 games with the Blue Jackets last season. Bean is competing for a depth spot on the roster going into the 2023-24 campaign.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Considered week-to-week

Bean (shoulder) is regarded as week-to-week as training camp begins, per Aaron Portzline of The Athletic. Bean recorded a goal and six points in 14 games in 2022-23. He hasn't played since Nov. 15, 2022 because of the injury.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Gets back on the ice

Bean (shoulder) has resumed skating as he recovers from late November surgery to repair a torn labrum, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports. The 24-year-old blueliner had a goal and six points in 14 games before being injured. Bean wasn't considered likely to play again this season when he went under the knife, but Blue Jackets coach Brad Larsen didn't offer a clear answer Thursday when asked if the defenseman might return before the team's regular-season finale in April. It's possible Bean's recovery goes well enough that he's able to get back into the lineup for a handful of games.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Undergoes shoulder surgery

Bean (torn labrum) had successful shoulder surgery and will miss the next 4-6 months. Bean had the surgery Nov. 23 and could miss the rest of the season. The defenseman had a goal and five assists in 14 games prior to the injury.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Continuing to be evaluated

Bean (upper body) is still being evaluated but coach Brad Larsen told reporters Thursday, "It doesn't look good," per Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch. Bean's absence would compound the Jackets' blueline problems considering Zach Werenski (shoulder) is done for the season and Adam Boqvist (foot) and Nick Blankenburg (ankle) are both out long-term as well. Prior to getting hurt, the 24-year-old Bean notched six points in 14 contests while averaging 15:42 of ice time. With Bean out as well, Marcus Bjork figures to see the biggest uptick in ice time, including a power-play role.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Sustains upper-body injury

Bean suffered an upper-body injury and will not return to Tuesday's game versus the Flyers. Bean was injured in the second period, falling to the ice after taking a hit in the corner. The defenseman joins a lengthy list of injured Blue Jackets -- the team is already missing three of its regular blueliners. If Bean misses time, expect Gavin Bayreuther to enter the lineup and Vladislav Gavrikov to take on extra responsibility.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Returns to action

Bean (illness) will return to the lineup Sunday afternoon against New Jersey, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports. Bean didn't play in Friday's loss to the Bruins because he was feeling under the weather. He has one goal and three assists in eight games this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Not playing Friday

Bean (illness) will not play Friday, Blue Jackets team reporter Jeff Svoboda reports. Bean has missed practice the last two days with the illness. His spot on the bottom-pairing will be taken by Gavin Bayreuther. Bean has a goal and four points in eight games in the 2022-23 season.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Misses practice Thursday

Bean (illness) did not practice Thursday, per Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch. Bean has been productive in a bottom-paring role with Columbus to start the year, logging a goal and three assists in his last four games. The 24-year-old defenseman should be considered day-to-day in advance of Friday's matchup with the Bruins. Gavin Bayreuther would likely slot into the Jackets' third pairing should Bean miss time.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Two helpers in Tuesday's loss

Bean recorded two assists in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Coyotes. Both points came in the third period as the Blue Jackets tried futilely to crawl out of the 5-0 hole they'd dug for themselves. After going scoreless through the first four games of the year, Bean now has a goal and four points in the last four contests, but his lack of consistent power-play time or secondary stats makes the 24-year-old blueliner tough to roster in most fantasy formats.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Scores twice in loss

Bean scored two goals and added four hits in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Ducks. Bean tallied the Blue Jackets' first two goals in the game, but they couldn't keep pace with the hosts. In 20 games since Bean returned from a groin injury, he's earned three goals and four assists while mostly seeing a bottom-four role. He could be in line for a larger role to close the season after Zach Werenski (upper body) was knocked out of Sunday's game in the first period. Bean has 22 points, 82 shots on net, 67 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating through 61 appearances.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Off IR

Bean (groin) was activated off injured reserve and will play Monday against Toronto, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports. Bean has missed the last 14 games while dealing with a groin injury. The 23-year-old has averaged 21:14 of ice time and tallied 15 points over 41 appearances in 2021-22. Gavin Bayreuther is expected to see a reduced role upon Bean's return to the lineup, Portzline adds.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Designated for IR

Bean (groin) was placed on injured reserve Monday. Bean is not expected to be back until early March, so his designation for injured reserve shouldn't come as a surprise. With 15 points in 41 contests, the 23-year-old blueliner has already set personal bests in goals (four) and points (15) and should still have time to get over the 20-point threshold once cleared to return.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Set to miss four weeks

Bean is dealing with a groin problem that will sideline him for the next four weeks. Bean had already set new career highs in goals (four), points (15) and average ice time (21:14) but will now have to wait until early March in order to add to his totals. While Gabriel Carlsson figures to get the first crack at replacing Bean, Dean Kukan should also be in the mix. Given the length of Bean's absence, fantasy players should be expecting him to be placed on injured reserve in the coming days.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Won't play Monday

Bean (lower body) will be unavailable versus the Panthers on Monday, per NHL.com. With Bean sidelined, Gabriel Carlsson will jump into the lineup while Adam Boqvist should see an uptick in power-play minutes. Despite his recent six-game pointless streak, the 23-year-old Bean is having a career year with new personal bests in goals (four) and points (15).
