  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Pulled right before comeback

Blackwood made 16 saves on 20 shots Thursday before being replaced by Kaapo Kahkonen in a 6-5 overtime win over the Red Wings. The Sharks went down 4-0 in the second period and that was the end of Blackwood's night. And then the Sharks roared back, tying the game less than six minutes later. Blackwood is 3-11-2 with a 3.20 GAA and .893 save percentage this season. There's no reason to put him in your blue paint. The Sharks are a struggling squad, and Blackwood isn't a twine savior.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Starting in Detroit

Blackwood was the first goaltender off the ice at morning practice and will get the road start versus Detroit on Thursday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. Blackwood has lost his last two starts, including giving up six goals on 36 shots in a 6-5 loss to the Rangers on Sunday. Overall, Blackwood is 3-11-2 with a 3.72 GAA and .899 save percentage in 2023-24. The Red Wings should give him plenty of trouble as they are third in NHL scoring, averaging 3.79 goals per game.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Falls to New York

Blackwood allowed six goals on 36 shots in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Rangers. It was a tough night for Blackwood, who surrendered three goals in the first period en route to a 6-5 loss. The 26-year-old Blackwood had been sharp coming into Sunday's outing, stopping 67 of 71 shots in his previous two starts. Overall, he's now 3-11-2 with an .899 save percentage on the season. While Blackwood should continue to serve as San Jose's primary starter over Kaapo Kahkonen, he's hard to trust as a fantasy option behind a last-place Sharks team.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Gets no help Thursday

Blackwood made 34 saves in Thursday's 3-0 loss to Boston. The former Devil played well and kept the Bruins off the board until the second period, but once Danton Heinen took advantage of a San Jose giveaway early in the frame to wire a one-timer past Blackwood, the game was effectively over. The 26-year-old netminder has just one win in his last seven appearances, going 1-4-1, but his 3.00 GAA and .909 save percentage are respectable given the quality of the Sharks lineup in front of him.

Blackwood is set to start on the road against Boston on Thursday, according to Max Miller of The Hockey News. Blackwood has a 3-9-2 record, 3.60 GAA and .902 save percentage in 16 contests this season. He's coming off a great showing in which he saved 33 of 34 shots in a 2-1 win over Washington. The Bruins might provide him with more trouble, though. They're 14-4-3 and in a four-way tie for 10th offensively with 3.33 goals per game.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Makes 33 saves in win

Blackwood stopped 33 of 34 shots in Monday's 2-1 win over the Capitals. In a battle of the league's two lowest-scoring teams, it was no surprise this game was played on tight margins. Blackwood got the job done with a strong performance despite the Sharks getting outshot 34-23. This victory snapped a five-game winless stretch for the 26-year-old, who is now at 3-9-2 with a 3.60 GAA and a .902 save percentage through 16 appearances this season. The Sharks set out on a road trip over the next week, with the first stop in Boston on Thursday, though it's possible head coach David Quinn saves Blackwood for Friday's game against New Jersey, his former team.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Strong but little to show for it

Blackwood made 22 saves in a 3-2 shootout loss to Montreal on Friday. It was nice to see Blackwood help secure at least one point from the game. His last win was Nov. 9 against Edmonton. The Sharks are all but destined to land in last place at season's end, so Blackwood's numbers will be difficult to swallow from a fantasy perspective. Consider him a favorable matchups guy only.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Facing Canadiens

Blackwood will be between the home pipes versus Montreal on Friday, according to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now. Blackwood is 2-9-1 with a 3.97 GAA and an .896 save percentage - the Sharks are the worst defensive team in the NHL. • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Plays two periods in relief

Blackwood allowed three goals on 13 shots in relief of Kaapo Kahkonen in Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Kraken. Kahkonen was overwhelmed early in the first period. Blackwood didn't fare much better over the final 40 minutes, but the Kraken let off the pace a bit as the game progressed. Through 14 outings, Blackwood has a 2-9-1 record with a 3.97 GAA and an .896 save percentage. He remains the Sharks' primary starter, but he's only a solid fantasy option in formats that heavily reward saves and shots against without punishing losses and goals against too much. Both Blackwood and Kahkonen should get chances to start when the Sharks host the Canadiens on Friday and the Canucks on Saturday.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Solid in Monday's loss

Blackwood surrendered three goals on 37 shots in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Canucks. Blackwood took his third straight loss, but he at least kept the Sharks competitive in this one. The Canucks didn't score until 13:07 of the second period, but they added a shorthanded goal late in that frame and an insurance tally in the third. The loss drops Blackwood to 2-9-1 with a 3.94 GAA and a .900 save percentage over 13 appearances. The Sharks wrap up their brief two-game road trip in Seattle on Wednesday.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Tending twine versus Canucks

Blackwood will patrol the crease on the road against Vancouver on Monday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. It was a disastrous outing for Blackwood the last time he faced the Canucks, giving up four goals on 14 shots (.714 save percentage) after replacing Kaapo Kahkonen. After a brief turnaround in which he put together back-to-back wins versus the Flyers and Oilers, Blackwood seems to be struggling again, allowing four goals in each of his last two contests. It figures to be a long season for both Blackwood and Kahkonen given the limited supporting cast in San Jose.

Blackwood allowed four goals on 31 shots in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Panthers. The fifth goal was an empty-netter. The Sharks were able to take a 3-2 lead in the third period, but Blackwood quickly let it slip away over the last 10 minutes. The 26-year-old netminder took his second loss in a row and dropped to 2-8-1 through 12 contests overall. He's also posted an ugly 4.02 GAA and .898 save percentage while playing behind the league's worst team. The Sharks are at home Thursday versus the Blues for their next game.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Stands tall in win

Blackwood stopped 39 of 41 shots in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Oilers. The Sharks got two-point efforts from Tomas Hertl and Fabian Zetterlund, but Blackwood was the biggest reason they won. Blackwood will likely face a ton of pucks when he plays, but he's shown flashes of being able to steal a result on occasion. He'll likely get some rest while serving as the backup for Friday's game in Vegas.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Exits ice first

Blackwood was the first goalie to leave the ice Thursday, Max Miller of The Hockey News reports, indicating he'll be in goal at home versus Edmonton. Blackwood will be making his fifth straight appearance between the pipes for the Sharks, having gone 1-2-0 with a 4.33 GAA in his last four outings. Collectively, Blackwood and Kaapo Kahkonen have managed just one win this season, so fantasy players will probably want to pursue alternative netminding options.

  • Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood: Steps up to earn first win

Blackwood stopped 38 of 39 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Flyers. Blackwood was able to get the Sharks their first win of the season, though he needed an elite performance to do so. He limited the damage to a Joel Farabee goal late in the second period, which Blackwood nearly kept out. The 26-year-old goalie is now at a 1-6-1 record with a 4.27 GAA and an .892 save percentage through nine games. Despite those terrible numbers, he's still the Sharks' best option between the pipes. They're back in action Thursday at home versus the struggling Oilers.
