  • Golden Knights' Tomas Hertl: Shifts to LTIR

Hertl (knee) was placed on long-term injured reserve Sunday, per CapFriendly. Vegas needed to create cap space to recall goaltender Jiri Patera from AHL Henderson on Sunday, so Hertl was moved from IR to LTIR. It's still unclear when Hertl will be able to make his Vegas debut after being acquired from the Sharks on March 8. Hertl hasn't played since Jan. 27 due to a knee injury, but he has been skating on his own recently.

  • Golden Knights' Tomas Hertl: Acquired by Golden Knights

Hertl, who is on injured reserve with a knee injury, was traded to Vegas from San Jose along with third-round selections in 2025 and 2027 on Friday in exchange for David Edstrom and a 2025 first-round pick. The Sharks will retain 17 percent of Hertl's cap hit, per Darren Dreger of TSN. Hertl, who is in just the second season of an eight-year, $65.1 million contract, will likely be moved to long-term injured reserve to help Vegas accommodate this trade. The 30-year-old hasn't played since Jan. 27 and underwent knee surgery Feb. 12. When Hertl is healthy, he will become a key figure in Vegas' top-six forward corps. He had 15 goals and 34 points in 48 outings with the Sharks before the trade.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Undergoes knee procedure

Hertl had surgery Monday to remove loose cartilage in his left knee and will be sidelined for multiple weeks. Hertl was already designated for injured reserve Monday, so this announcement shouldn't come as a surprise. Given his timeline and $8 million-plus cap hit, the center could be a strong candidate for long-term injured reserve, though the Sharks aren't expected to be buyers at the trade deadline anyway. At this point, Hertl is unlikely to reach the 60-point threshold, missing that mark for the first time since 2020-21. William Eklund could be tasked with a bigger role with Hertl shelved.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Surfaces on IR

Hertl (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Hertl sat out two contests before participating in the All-Star Game in Toronto, but he has missed two straight practices following the break. Even though a timetable for his return has not been provided, it seems doubtful that he will be available for the team's upcoming two-game road trip. Hertl has accounted for 15 goals and 34 points over 48 games this season.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Sidelined Wednesday versus Anaheim

Hertl (lower body) will miss Wednesday's matchup against Anaheim, per Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News. Although Hertl will miss San Jose's last game before the All-Star break, the veteran winger could be cleared in time to play in Saturday's All-Star game. The 30-year-old is on track to record a third straight 20-plus goal campaign this year -- he's currently at 15 tallies through 48 games.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Out Tuesday

Hertl (lower body) will miss Tuesday's contest at home against Seattle, per Max Miller of The Hockey News. Hertl has put together a solid season thus far with 15 goals and 19 assists in 48 games. In his last five games, he's posted two goals and two assists to go along with 10 shots. The 30-year-old is in his 11th year in the league, all coming with the Sharks. • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Considered day-to-day

Hertl (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day after skipping Monday's practice, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Hertl told Pashelka on Monday that he isn't sure if he'll be able to play in Tuesday's contest against Seattle. Hertl temporarily left Saturday's 5-2 loss to Buffalo before returning in the third period. He has accounted for 15 goals, 34 points, 113 shots on net, 46 blocked shots and 38 hits in 48 games this season. If Hertl can't play, William Eklund could shift to center in Tuesday's contest.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Completes comeback in overtime

Hertl scored the game-winning goal and added three shots on net in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Rangers. Hertl tallied 1:29 into the extra session to complete the Sharks' comeback win. The 30-year-old has two goals and two assists over his last three games, and it's possible some of the opponents' attention may be off of Hertl now that Logan Couture is in the lineup. Hertl is up to 15 goals, 34 points, 112 shots on net, 46 blocked shots, 38 hits, 22 PIM and a minus-25 rating through 47 appearances. He remains the Sharks' top overall forward.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Paces Sharks with two points

Hertl supplied an empty-net goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Ducks. Hertl leads the Sharks in points -- he's fashioned 14 goals and 18 assists in 45 games -- but that isn't saying a whole lot as Team Teal ranks dead last in scoring at 2.04 goals per game. Also, it gets worse when you consider that Hertl's already had 56 of his shots blocked compared to 77 blocks against for his 82-game career average. The silver lining is that the Sharks welcomed captain Logan Couture (lower body) back for his season debut in Saturday's win, and that should take some pressure off Hertl in this anemic offense.

Hertl scored a power-play goal and added 10 PIM in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Avalanche. Hertl tied the game at 1-1 late in the second period, but the Sharks couldn't get ahead after that. The 30-year-old turned up his offense with nine tallies and three assists over 14 outings in December. For the season, he's managed 13 goals, 28 points (nine on the power play), 90 shots on net, 31 blocked shots, 26 hits, 20 PIM and a minus-19 rating over 36 contests in a top-line role.

Hertl scored a goal in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Canucks. Hertl has found his scoring touch with eight goals and three assists over 11 games in December. This was the first game in which he scored exactly one goal since Nov. 20. The 30-year-old center is up to 12 tallies, 27 points, 82 shots on net, 29 blocked shots, 26 hits and a minus-15 rating through 33 appearances. Hertl figures to keep the top-line center role throughout the campaign.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Scores both goals in loss

Hertl scored a pair of power-play goals on five shots, added two hits and went minus-2 in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Avalanche. Hertl has three multi-goal games in December, giving him seven tallies and three assists over his last eight contests. His goals Sunday were his first power-play points since Nov. 24. The 30-year-old center is up to 11 goals, 26 points, 78 shots on net, 26 hits, 26 blocked shots and a minus-16 rating through 30 appearances. It's fair to say he's succeeding in spite of the team around him, but it is success nonetheless as he aims for the second 70-point campaign of his career.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Assists on game-tying goal

Hertl provided an assist and two shots on goal in Sunday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Golden Knights. Hertl set up Mike Hoffman's second goal of the game to tie it at 4-4. With five goals and three assists during a five-game point streak, Hertl is more than doing his part to make the Sharks exciting again. The 30-year-old forward has nine goals, 15 helpers, 68 shots on net, 25 blocked shots and a minus-14 rating through 27 outings overall. Outside of a rough plus-minus rating, he's playing as well as you'd expect from the average top-line center.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Five goals in last two games

Hertl scored twice Thursday in a 6-5 overtime win over Detroit. After starting the season with just five points in his first 10 games, Hertl has 18 points, including eight goals, in his last 16 games. He's currently on a four-game, seven-point streak that includes five goals, all of which have come in his last two games. Sure, Hertl's minus-14 has an odor for those of you in leagues that count that stat, but his other stats are worthy of greater activation.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Powers Sharks to comeback win

Hertl recorded a hat trick with three goals on eight shots in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win over the Islanders. Hertl beat Ilya Sorokin with a wrister to tie the game 1-1 in the first period, then scored twice in the final four minutes of the third to force overtime while finishing off a hat trick. The 30-year-old Hertl had gone six games without a goal prior to Tuesday's performance, though he did have six assists in that span. Overall, he's up to seven goals and 21 points through 24 games this season.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: In lineup after all

Hertl (middle body) will play in Thursday's game versus the Bruins, Max Miller of The Hockey News reports. Hertl was not a full participant in warmups but will suit up nonetheless. Kevin Labanc will be scratched to make room for Hertl's return. Look for Hertl to skate on the second line and first power-play unit against Boston.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Not expected to play

Hertl (middle body) is not expected to play Thursday versus the Bruins, Max Miller of The Hockey News reports. Hertl was reportedly on the ice to begin warmups, but it doesn't look like he's ready to return to the lineup. He'll miss a second straight game, but his attendance in warmups suggests he could be a game-time decision for Friday's contest in New Jersey.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Not playing Monday

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Dishes pair of helpers in win

Hertl notched two assists and four PIM in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Canucks. Hertl set up the Sharks' first two goals in this games, with Ty Emberson and Fabian Zetterlund providing the finishing touches. • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Nine points in last 10 games

Hertl put up two assists in a 3-2 shootout loss to Montreal on Friday. Putting up points this season has been like pushing a boulder uphill for Hertl, who inked a huge contract extension with the bottom-dwelling Sharks in March of 2022. He clearly loves the place and the team, and quietly, he's also delivered nine points, including six helpers, in his last 10 games. Hertl also has 27 shots in that span. You may be able to pick up him for almost nothing, but beware of his plus-minus rating. He's already at minus-16 in just 20 games. That's an ugly record if it continues to grow.
