Edmundson (hand) had surgery Tuesday to stabilize a fractured hand and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks. Edmundson sustained the injury during an intrasquad scrimmage over the weekend. The 30-year-old was acquired from the Canadiens over the summer to provide a physical element to the Capitals' defense corps but will be forced to wait to make his debut. Alexander Alexeyev is likely to see a regular role alongside Trevor van Riemsdyk on the third pairing in the interim.... See More ... See Less

Capitals' Joel Edmundson: Being evaluated
Edmundson won't take part in Tuesday's practice because of an upper-body injury, Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic reports. Edmundson is scheduled to meet with Washington's medical staff Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury. The 30-year-old blueliner was injured in Sunday's scrimmage. Edmundson, who was acquired from the Canadiens in July, registered 13 points, 149 blocked shots and 112 hits in 61 appearances last season.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Joel Edmundson: Traded to Washington
The Canadiens traded Edmundson to the Capitals on Saturday, per Darren Dreger of TSN. The 30-year-old Edmundson recorded two goals and 13 points while racking up 112 hits and 149 blocked shots in 61 games with Montreal last season. Primarily a defensive-minded blueliner, Edmundson should step into a top-four role in Washington.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Two points in win
Edmundson tallied a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Penguins. Edmundson extended Montreal's lead to 4-2 with just 11 seconds left in the first period, beating Tristan Jarry with a slapshot from the point. He'd add an assist on Anthony Richard's game-winning tally in the third. It's the first multi-point contest of the year for Edmundson, as he's up to nine points (two goals, seven assists) through 47 outings this season. While he won't contribute much offensively, Edmundson has provided some physicality to the Canadiens' blueline with 84 hits and 124 blocked shots.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Picks up helper
Edmundson recorded an assist, two hits and two blocked shots in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Golden Knights. The helper was Edmundson's first point in three games since he returned from an upper-body injury. It snapped a nine-game drought that predated the injury. The 29-year-old defenseman is unlikely to become a juggernaut on offense -- he's at seven points with 54 shots on net, 114 blocked shots, 71 hits, 41 PIM and a minus-22 rating through 42 contests overall in a top-four role.... Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Ready to rock
Edmundson (upper body) is set to return to the lineup Thursday versus the Kings, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports. Edmundson should resume a defensive role in the Canadiens' top four after missing 11 games with the injury. It was unclear during warmups who would exit the lineup to facilitate Edmundson's return.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Game-time decision Thursday
Edmundson (upper body) is considered a game-time decision for Thursday's contest against the Kings. Edmundson hasn't played since Jan. 26 because of the injury. He has a goal and six points in 39 contests this season. If Edmundson returns Thursday, then Montreal might dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen, according to Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca.... Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Unavailable against Sharks
Edmundson (upper body) will not be in action versus San Jose on Tuesday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports. Edmundson will be shelved for his 11th straight contest due to his lingering upper-body issue but appears to be trending in the right direction. Considering the blueliner is goalless in 28 consecutive games and managed just four assists over that stretch, fantasy players shouldn't be expecting much out of Edmundson in terms of offensive production.... Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Will travel on road trip
Edmundson (upper body) is expected to travel with the Canadiens and practice Monday ahead of the start of their four-game road trip. Edmundson has been out for 10 games already, but it appears his return may be close. The Canadiens' road trip begins Tuesday in San Jose, though it's unclear if he'll be ready to go at that point. Corey Schueneman would likely come out of the lineup once Edmundson returns.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Status unchanged
Edmundson (upper body) is still considered day-to-day despite having missed the last seven games, Arpon Basu of The Athletic reports. At this point, Edmundson should probably be considered out indefinitely considering he has yet to rejoin practice and isn't skating with any consistency. Prior to getting hurt, the blueliner was goalless in 28 straight games in which he recorded just four assists. As such, fantasy players shouldn't be expecting much in the way of offensive upside even once healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Won't return Saturday
Edmundson (upper body) isn't expected to play Saturday versus Toronto, per Arpon Basu of The Athletic. It will be Edmundson's seventh straight game out of the lineup. He has a goal and six points in 39 contests this season. Johnny Kovacevic is projected to stay in the lineup for the seventh consecutive game.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Still out Thursday
Edmundson (upper body) will not play Thursday versus the Hurricanes, Jonathan Bernier of Journal de Montreal reports. Edmundson will miss his sixth straight game with the injury, and there's been no indication when he'll be ready to return. Johnny Kovacevic continues to fill in on the third pairing while Justin Barron has taken on a top-four role in Edmundson's absence.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Not expected to return Sunday
Edmundson (upper body) will miss Sunday's game against Edmonton, according to Arpon Basu of The Athletic. Edmundson also missed Montreal's previous three contests. He has a goal and six points in 39 games while averaging 19:51 of ice time this season. With Edmundson still unavailable, Johnny Kovacevic is projected to play for the fourth straight game.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Not playing Saturday
Edmundson (upper body) won't play Saturday versus the Islanders, Guillaume Lefrancois of La Presse reports. Edmundson, who has resumed skating, hasn't been in the lineup since Jan. 26 against Detroit. He has provided six points, 53 shots on goal, 110 blocks and 64 hits in 39 appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Still out Tuesday
Edmundson (upper body) will miss Tuesday's game versus the Senators, Guillaume Lefrancois of La Presse reports. Edmundson will miss his second straight game with the injury. There's been little information on a timeline for the defenseman's return, so it's unclear if he'll be ready to go following the All-Star break -- the Canadiens' next game is Feb. 11 versus the Islanders.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Unavailable Saturday
Edmundson (upper body) won't play Saturday versus Ottawa, Patrick Friolet of RDS reports. Edmundson was injured in Thursday's contest against Detroit. He has supplied six points, 53 shots on goal, 110 blocks and 64 hits in 39 games this season. Edmundson, who is considered to be day-to-day, will be replaced on the back end by Johnny Kovacevic.... Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Suffers upper body injury
Edmundson suffered an upper-body injury Thursday versus the Red Wings, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports. The injury was originally reported as a lower-body issue but that was corrected Friday. Edmundson was hurt during the opening period. He has a goal and five assists in 39 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Exits with lower-body injury
Edmundson suffered a lower-body injury and won't return to Thursday's game versus the Red Wings. Edmundson was hurt in the first period and ruled out early in the second. The 29-year-old's defensive presence will be missed if he's forced to miss additional time, but he has just six points in 39 games this season, so his absence won't impact most fantasy rosters.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Helps on lone goal
Edmundson had an assist, two shots on goal and four blocked shots over 19:18 of ice time in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Lightning. Christian Dvorak won an offensive zone draw back to Edmundson, who fed partner Kaiden Guhle for the Canadiens' lone goal. The helper was Edmundson's fourth, giving him five points for the season, and he leads Montreal with 78 blocked shots over 25 games.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Joel Edmundson: Puts up assist in overtime win
Edmundson logged an assist and three hits in Monday's 3-2 overtime win over the Coyotes. Edmundson snapped a five-game point drought when he earned the secondary assist on Mike Hoffman's game-winning goal in overtime. Through 22 outings, Edmundson has managed four points, a minus-7 rating, 71 blocked shots, 32 hits, 26 shots on net and 21 PIM. He'll continue to fill more of a defensive role in the Canadiens' top four, so fantasy managers in most standard formats can look elsewhere for help on the blue line.... See More ... See Less
