Unlike last season, the battles for the final playoff spots in each conference are coming down to the wire.
In the Eastern Conference, the Florida Panthers are fighting tooth and nail for a wild card spot. The Panthers won their fourth straight game on Tuesday night, and as a result climbed into the first wild card spot, jumping both the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders.
After winning the President's Trophy in 2022, the Panthers struggled to remain in the playoff hunt for most of this year. However, Florida appears to be turning a corner, and it could be a dangerous first-round matchup. Between Matthew Tkachuk, Aleksander Barkov, and Carter Verhaeghe, the Panthers have some serious starpower at forward. As long as Florida gets consistent goaltending, which is often the question, don't dismiss them as an easy out.
