  • 49ers' Danny Gray: Unavailable for postseason

Gray's (shoulder) will remain on injured reserve for the rest of the postseason after his 21-day evaluation window expired Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Gray was designated to return from IR in late December, but he will ultimately be forced to remain sidelined for the rest of the playoffs after his practice window passed without him being added to the 53-man roster. The wide receiver failed to appear in a game during the 2023 campaign and he'll now shift his focus to being ready to go for the 2024 season.

  • 49ers' Danny Gray: Cleared to practice

The 49ers designated Gray (shoulder) for return from injured reserve Wednesday. Gray has been on IR since Aug. 30 due to a sprained shoulder, but the team has now opened a 21-day window for him to return to practice and ultimately be added to the active roster. If the wide receiver isn't activated within that timeframe, he'll revert to IR for the remainder of the season. While playing 85 offensive snaps over 13 games in his rookie campaign with the 49ers in 2022, Gray recorded one reception for 10 yards on seven targets and carried once for nine yards.

  • 49ers' Danny Gray: May have suffered collarbone injury

Gray (shoulder) will have additional testing done to determine if he suffered a collarbone injury, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Gray finished his rookie campaign with one reception (seven targets) for 10 yards and one rush for nine yards in the regular season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan drew up a couple of gadget plays for his third-round wideout, but he didn't trust the rookie in meaningful moments this season. Perhaps Gray sees more usage in his sophomore campaign, but he will have to fight up several spots on the receiver depth chart during training camp to be worth monitoring in fantasy.

  • 49ers' Danny Gray: Questionable to return Thursday

Gray is questionable to return to Thursday Night Football against Seattle with a hamstring injury, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. The rookie third-rounder made the first catch of his career during last week's 35-7 win over Tampa Bay, and he's seen sparse usage over nine games this season. With Gray sidelined for the time being, expect Willie Snead to step up into a bigger role after being elevated from the practice squad for Thursday's divisional matchup.

  • 49ers' Danny Gray: Makes first career reception

Gray played 13 of the 49ers' 59 snaps on offense and finished with one catch for 10 yards on his lone target in Sunday's 35-7 win over the Buccaneers. After failing to haul in any of the six targets he drew over his eight NFL games, Gray finally came through with a reception in garbage time of the Week 14 contest. With Deebo Samuel (knee/ankle) exiting the contest with an injury that is expected to sideline him for around three weeks, Gray will be in line to suit up for Thursday's game in Seattle, but the rookie out of SMU isn't guaranteed to take on a major role. Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings and Ray-Ray McCloud are likely to serve as the 49ers' preferred wideout trio, and head coach Kyle Shanahan could also hand more reps to fullback Kyle Juszczyk or feature more two-tight end sets while Samuel is sidelined.

Gray broke loose for a 76-yard touchdown down the left sideline during Friday's preseason win against the Packers, connecting with Trey Lance in the process. Overall, Gray hauled in two of four targets for 99 yards and the score.
