    After reverting to the Titans' injured reserve, Tennessee waived Thompson with an injury settlement Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Thompson spent the first half of training camp on the active/non-football illness list. After returning, he began competing for a depth safety role with the club. Now that he has reached an injury settlement, the 24-year-old will be free to play again this season.

Thompson will now be able to practice with the team and get to work on earning a spot on the final 53-man roster. While it isn't clear what sort of illness Thompson is dealing with, he will be eligible to practice and play in the preseason once healthy. Thompson has only appeared in three games this season, and none since going on IR after Week 9's game with the Chiefs.     The Titans signed Thompson to their active roster from Jacksonville's practice squad Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Thompson has yet to make his regular-season NFL debut, but he has the speed (4.40-second 40) to at least make a splash as a special-teams gunner. It could still be a while before the youngster sees the field on defense, though.
