  • Texans' Kurt Hinish: Activated from IR

The Texans activated Hinish (undisclosed) from the reserve/injured list Tuesday. Hinish was placed on IR at the end of training camp due to an unspecified injury. He was designated to return Oct. 2, and he'll now rejoin the Texans' 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Packers. Hinish played in all 17 regular-season games for the Texans in 2023 and finished with 22 tackles (11 solo), including 0.5 sacks, and one pass defended.

  • Texans' Kurt Hinish: Has practice window opened

The Texans opened Hinish's (undisclosed) practice window Wednesday. Hinish landed on IR due to an undisclosed issue in late August. After sitting out the first four weeks of the campaign, the 25-year-old is now eligible to return. Houston has 21 days to add Hinish to its active roster; if he's not activated within that window, he'll be unable to return this season. Upon his potential activation, Hinish is likely to play a rotational role along the Texans' defensive line.

  • Texans' Kurt Hinish: Won't play at Chicago

Houston downgraded Hinish's (foot) status for Sunday's game at Chicago to out Saturday. The undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame has surprisingly played a somewhat significant role in the Texans' defense through two games this season, but he'll sit out Week 3 as he recovers from a foot injury. Fellow rookie Thomas Booker should see increased reps in Hinish's absence.

  • Texans' Kurt Hinish: Gets snaps with first-team defense

Hinish had three tackles, all for a loss, including a sack in Thursday's preseason finale against the 49ers. Hinish, a 6-foot-2, 300-pound nose tackle out of Notre Dame, began preseason well down the depth chart but was on the field with the first-team defense Thursday, per Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle. That was due to Roy Lopez being sidelined with a soft-tissue injury. The rookie has gradually moved up the depth chart and appears in line to claim a roster spot as a backup tackle behind Maliek Collins and Lopez.
