Wilson (knee) was waived by the Browns on Monday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Wilson, a 2017 fourth-round pick, never suited up for a regular-season contest in Cleveland due to numerous knee injuries. If he's able to earn a depth role elsewhere in the league, Wilson will look to make up for missing two years of development time.

Wilson, a 2017 fourth-round selection, will miss his second consecutive season after requiring surgery Tuesday to repair a torn left patellar tendon. Even if Wilson returns to full strength for the start of the Browns' offseason program next spring, missing two years of development time could hurt his chances of winning a roster spot.

Browns' Howard Wilson: Undergoes another procedure
Wilson had surgery Tuesday morning on a torn left patellar tendon and is expected to miss the 2018 season, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
This will be the second consecutive season Wilson misses since being selected in the fourth round of the 2017 draft. Wilson wasn't destined for a large role anyway with the Browns drafting Denzel Ward in the first round along with signing E.J. Gaines and T.J. Carrie this offseason.

Wilson, who broke his kneecap in rookie minicamp, was never removed from the preseason PUP list. He won't be eligible to return to game action until Week 7.

Wilson (knee) was placed on the Browns' Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
The fourth-round pick broke his kneecap in rookie minicamp, so the move comes as no surprise. Wilson was able to avoid surgery, so a mid-season return is still possible. With Joe Haden and Jason McCourty expected to slot in as the Browns' starting cornerbacks, it's likely Wilson will be used as a depth option if and when he returns.

Browns' Howard Wilson: No longer needs surgery on knee
Wilson is no longer expected to need surgery on his fractured kneecap and is aiming for a return midseason, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports.
According to Rapoport, the injury wasn't as bad as originally expected and the Browns believe they'll be able to get Wilson back in 12-to-16 weeks. That puts an early return potentially in the first half of the season, which is good news for the Browns secondary depth. They recently added Jason McCourty as a free agent and he'll likely be the favorite to start opposite Joe Haden, so once healthy, Wilson figures to work as a depth option.

Wilson will require surgery on his fractured kneecap and could be out for the season, Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot reports.
Cabot notes that Wilson has a history of knee injuries, including a torn ACL he suffered in college. The fourth-rounder was expected to compete for playing time opposite Joe Haden, but his injury will likely result in the Browns exploring other options outside the organization to add secondary depth.

Browns' Howard Wilson: Sidelined with fractured kneecap
Wilson is not participating in the Browns' rookie camp due to a fractured patella, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
The rookie suffered the injury on the first day of rookie camp Friday. Wilson does not currently have a timetable for a return, but his outlook should come into focus as training camp approaches. If he has to miss a significant portion of camp, it'll hurt Wilson's chances at seeing the field early in his career.

The Browns selected Wilson in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 126th overall.
Wilson is another strong addition to the Browns' secondary after they nabbed the versatile Jabrill Peppers in the first round. He checks in at 6-foot-1 and showed elite short-area quickness both on the field and at the Combine. If he's able to translate his skills at the next level, Wilson will provide a nice complement to Joe Haden.
