Steve Longa: Signed to Detroit's practice squad
Longa signed a contract to join the Lions' practice squad, Justin Rogers of the Detroit News reports.
Longa, now in his fourth professional season out of Rutgers, did not survive final roster cuts ahead of the 2019 campaign. However, he's healthy after missing the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL and could still be working his way back to full speed. In 15 games during the 2017 season, Longa tallied 13 tackles over 301 special-teams snaps.

Longa started camp on the PUP list, as he continued his recovery from the torn ACL that caused him to miss the entire 2018 season. However, he's now ready to retake the field. The 24-year-old will only have a couple days at practice to demonstrate he's ready for game action if he is going to play in Thursday's preseason finale.

This news comes as no surprise, considering the torn ACL forced him to miss all of the team's offseason work to this point. July marks the 11th month of recovery from the injury for Longa, so his return should be coming in the next month or two.

Longa's knee appeared to have buckled after being juked by Giants quarterback Kyle Lauletta, as the former headed straight to the locker room for medical attention. The severity of the injury is unclear at this point, but the fact it occurred in a non-contact scenario isn't a great sign.
