Davis (shoulder) is questionable to return Sunday against the Dolphins, Ryan Hannable of WEEI.com reports. Davis suffered the injury in the first half. With Kyle Dugger (hand) out, Davis was active to help provide depth at safety. Justin Bethel will likely see extra work until Davis can return.

  • Bengals' Sean Davis: Elevated to active roster

The Bengals elevated Davis to their active roster Saturday. Davis spent the preseason with the Colts, but he failed to make the initial 53-man roster and landed on the Bengals' practice squad. • Sean Davis: Released by Indianapolis

The Colts released Davis on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Davis linked up with the Colts back in April and appeared destined to secure a depth role at safety, but the veteran will now have to look for a chance elsewhere. He mostly contributed on special teams in 16 appearances with the Steelers last season.

  • Sean Davis: Surprisingly let go

Davis was released by Washington on Saturday, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. The transaction clears the way for Troy Apke to start at safety opposite Landon Collins. Davis signed a one-year contract with Washington all the way back in March with the intent on securing a starting safety spot, but he'll have to find a different path to a team's top unit. A two-year starter with the Steelers back in 2017 and 2018, it'd be a bit surprising if Davis doesn't end up on a roster, even if it's under the guise of depth along the secondary.

  • Steelers' Sean Davis: Lands on IR

Davis (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a torn labrum, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. A day after Davis said he expected to play in Week 3 versus the 49ers, the Steelers sent him to IR. His injury will need extensive recovery, but the fourth-year pro is a solid candidate to return in Week 11. To help lessen the effect on defense, the Steelers traded a 2020 first-round pick to the Dolphins in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick, who is talented enough to possibly retain the starting job even when Davis returns.

Davis exited Sunday's preseason matchup against the Titans with a thigh injury, but he was able to head to the locker room under his own power, Brian Batko of Post-Gazette Sports reports. Davis' injury didn't look incredibly serious, but it should be enough to knock him out for the rest of the night.

  • Steelers' Sean Davis: Nabs first interception this season

Davis totaled five tackles (all solo) and an interception during Sunday's 31-28 loss to New Orleans. The interception came on the Saints' first possession when Davis hauled in a deep pass from Taysom Hill intended for Tedd Ginn Jr. It was the first pick of the season for Davis -- who also leads the team with 80 tackles this season -- although Pittsburgh would likely prefer someone other than a defensive back have that honor. The Steelers failed to force a turnover in their previous game this season against the Bengals, whom they face in Week 17.

Davis was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice due to a knee injury. Davis played all 67 defensive snaps in last Sunday's loss to the Raiders but apparently didn't escape the game unscathed. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, but the 25-year-old will likely need to practice fully by Friday if he is to avoid an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Patriots.

  • Steelers' Sean Davis: Leads team with 10 tackles

Davis recorded 10 tackles (seven solo) in Pittsburgh's 27-24 loss to New England on Sunday. For the second straight game, both without Ryan Shazier (spine), Davis led the defense in tackles. Although he has been a dominating force in those two games, the Steelers would prefer that the leading tackler not be part of their secondary. They'll look to get back to their winning ways in Week 15 against the struggling Texans.

  • Steelers' Sean Davis: Leads team with seven tackles

Davis had a team-high seven tackles (six solo) in Pittsburgh's 34-3 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday. The rookie safety now has 12 tackles on the season, but this was a disappointing effort overall for the defense. For the first time this season, the Steelers failed to force a turnover and, even more troubling, is the fact that they were unable to record a sack for the second time in their first three games, ranking them last in the league with just one sack this season.
