  • Bills' Tyler Matakevich: Now can practice

Matakevich (undisclosed) was activated from the active/PUP list Tuesday, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports. Matakevich has been sidelined since camp opened, but now he'll get a chance to compete for a roster spot as Week 1 draws closer. The 30-year-old has been a special-teams ace for the Bills in each of the last three seasons, seeing limited spot duty on defense. He'll work to earn a similar role again this season after re-signing with Buffalo in March.

  • Bills' Tyler Matakevich: Placed on PUP list

Matakevich (undisclosed) was placed on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. Matakevich will open training camp on the sidelines, but he'll be eligible to return to practice and play at any point this preseason, which starts Aug. 12 versus the Colts. The linebacker operated almost exclusively on special teams in 2022, recording six tackles while playing only two of his 324 snaps on defense.

  • Steelers' Tyler Matakevich: New special teamer for Buffalo

The Bills have signed Matakevich to a two-year deal worth up to $7.15 million, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports. Plain and simple, this is a depth signing, but the Bills are on the lookout for high-motor guys with special teams skills and Matakevich fits that bill. He's averaged more than 300 special-teams snaps per season since joining the Steelers as a seventh-rounder out of Temple in 2016 while finishing in the top 10 in special-teams tackles three times. Matakevich hardly ever saw snaps on defense with Pittsburgh, but he's probably got enough ability to serve as the primary backup to one of Buffalo's starting linebackers.

With another week under his belt, look for the linebacker to potentially see some defensive snaps Monday night in Houston.

  • Steelers' Tyler Matakevich: Leads team with nine tackles

Matakevich had a team-high nine tackles (seven solo) in the Steelers' 30-15 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. The rookie linebacker gave a solid effort in what was otherwise a lackluster performance by Pittsburgh's defense. They failed to record a sack, and have just seven in six games this season, and also went without a turnover for the second time in four games.
