  • David Fales: Let go from practice squad

The Jets released Fales from the practice squad Wednesday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.

The Jets are satisfied with the three quarterbacks they have on the active roster, so they're moving on from Fales, who suited up in two games for the team in 2019. The 30-year-old signal-caller likely tops out as a practice squad player at this point in his career.

  • David Fales: Gets spot on practice squad

The Jets signed Fales to the practice squad Sunday, Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.com reports.

The Jets couldn't keep Fales on the active roster, with Sam Darnold, Joe Flacco (neck) and James Morgan all already occupying spots. Instead, the team will stash him on the practice squad as an emergency placeholder.

  • David Fales: Loses backup QB battle

The Jets cut Fales on Saturday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

With Joe Flacco (neck) and rookie fourth-round pick James Morgan on the active roster, Fales was cut loose. He could be a practice squad candidate that gets the call if Flacco's injury flares up.

  • Jets' David Fales: Signs with Jets

Fales has signed a one-year contract with the Jets, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

Fales' previous experience under Jets coach Adam Gase represents an advantage for the backup QB, given the uncertainly with regard to how the NFL offseason will proceed. Fales slots in behind starting QB Sam Darnold, with Mike White also in reserve.

  • Jets' David Fales: Gets promotion ahead of Week 6

Fales is set to become the team's backup after the Jets released Luke Falk on Sunday, Andy Vasquez of NorthJersey.com reports.

The team elected to let Falk loose just a week after he started a game for them. False got another shot with the Jets on Oct. 4, and, as evidenced by this news, has earned the role to back up Sam Darnold for Sunday's game. It will be Darnold's first game after recovering from mononucleosis, so Fales could be thrust in the game should Darnold suffer a setback.

  • Jets' David Fales: Re-signs with Jets

Fales signed a contract with the Jets on Friday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

Fales was released by the Jets heading into the bye week since there was optimism regarding Sam Darnold's (illness) status for Week 5, but Fales will rejoin the team now that Darnold was ruled out. The 29-year-old will once again serve as the backup quarterback behind Luke Falk at Philadelphia on Sunday.

  • David Fales: Cut by Jets

The Jets released Fales on Monday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

Fales was brought up from the practice squad to serve as the backup to Luke Falk while Sam Darnold (illness) and Trevor Siemian (ankle) were out, but he was cut loose ahead of the team's bye week. Dropping Fales supports the growing optimism that Darnold will be ready to play the Eagles in Week 5 following the team's bye. Fales could land back on the Jets' practice squad, and he may even be back on the active roster if Darnold suffers a setback.

  • Jets' David Fales: Reunites with Gase in New York

Fales agreed Wednesday to a contract with the Jets and is slated to serve as the team's backup quarterback Sunday against the Patriots, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

With Sam Darnold battling mononucleosis and Trevor Siemian (ankle) ruled out for the season, Gang Green had been left with No. 3 quarterback Luke Falk as the only healthy option under center. Fales spent time in Miami with Jets coach Adam Gase, completing 29 of 43 passes for 265 yards, one touchdown and one interception in two appearances back in 2017.

  • David Fales: Parts ways with Detroit

  • Lions' David Fales: Inks deal with Detroit

Fales signed a contact with the Lions on Monday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.

Fales spent 2018 in Miami as the No. 3 quarterback and did not attempt a pass all season. The 28-year-old will compete with Tom Savage for the backup job behind Matthew Stafford.

  • Dolphins' David Fales: Not suiting up Sunday

Fales is a healthy inactive for Sunday's season opener against the Titans, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

Fales was beaten out by Brock Osweiler for the backup job behind Ryan Tannehill. It looked like Fales was outplaying Osweiler through most of training camp and preseason, but the Dolphins appear to be more comfortable having a backup with significant starting experience.

  • Dolphins' David Fales: In mix for backup job

Head coach Adam Gase recently indicated that the competition for the No. 2 quarterback job between Fales and Brock Osweiler is "day-to-day," Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

Fales has been slightly more impressive this preseason, but it's clear the Dolphins have yet to make a decision over who will serve as Ryan Tannehill's backup in advance of Week 1.

  • Dolphins' David Fales: Outperforms Osweiler again in loss

Fales completed five of 10 passes for 63 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Dolphins' 27-10 preseason loss to the Ravens on Saturday.

Although Fales' final line was nothing remarkable, it still beat that of Brock Osweiler's, his competition for the No. 2 job behind Ryan Tannehill. Osweiler completed five of seven passes, but at just 3.3 yards per attempt, he netted a paltry 23 passing yards. He also took three sacks, adding to his overall ineffectiveness. Fales consistently outperformed Osweiler in camp and in the preseason opener versus the Buccaneers as well, seemingly giving him the leg up heading into next Thursday's preseason finale against the Falcons.

  • Dolphins' David Fales: Outplaying competition for backup role

Fales has been steadier under center than Brock Osweiler during training camp and coach Adam Gase noted that he's shown enough improvement to warrant the No. 2 quarterback job, the Miami Herald reports.

Fales has appeared in just three career NFL games and attempted a total of 48 passes, but he's apparently developed his game under center to the point of potentially earning a permanent backup gig for 2018. He will still need to prove himself worthy of the job during preseason action, but he's off to a good start.

  • Dolphins' David Fales: Competing for backup job

Fales is competing for the top backup quarterback spot in Miami, Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald reports.

Fales re-signed with the Dolphins back in March and is currently set to compete with Brock Osweiler and Bryce Petty for the top backup slot behind starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Last season, Fales started Week 17, throwing for 265 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 29 of 42 passing. While the team lost and Fales' stat line wasn't eye popping, the coaching staff, including head coach Adam Gase, was impressed enough that Fales could have given himself a boost for the backup gig. Fales will have to maintain solid play in the preseason but has a solid chance to earn a roster slot in 2018.

  • Dolphins' David Fales: Re-ups with Miami

Fales signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins on Thursday, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

The Dolphins allowed Fales, who was a restricted free agent, to test the open market this week, but it appears the quarterback was unable to find an attractive offer elsewhere. With Jay Cutler's days in Miami over, Fales will move forward as the No. 2 signal caller behind Ryan Tannehill -- though it's possible the team adds to its quarterback room in the upcoming draft.
