Rams' Tyler Johnson: Makes pair of catches
Johnson secured two of three targets for 20 yards during Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Cardinals.
While Johnson's stats dipped after a strong Week 1 performance (five receptions, 79 yards), Cooper Kupp (ankle) was spotted in a walking boot after the game. With Puka Nacua (knee) already on injured reserve, Johnson, along with Demarcus Robinson, Jordan Whittington and Tutu Atwell, now are the only healthy receivers currently rostered by the Rams. If Kupp were to miss time, Robinson and Johnson would likely take over as the top two receivers given their usage through the first two contests, with Whittington and Atwell the next men up.

Rams' Tyler Johnson: Opportunity knocks with Nacua on IR
Johnson is expected to handle a larger role on offense beginning with Sunday's game in Arizona after the Rams placed fellow receiver Puka Nacua (knee) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, J.B. Long of the team's official site reports.
Johnson finished second on the team with 79 receiving yards in Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to the Lions, and his seven targets tied Demarcus Robinson for second on the team behind Cooper Kupp's 21. That trio of wide receivers will likely continue to receive significant playing time in the absence of Nacua, who will miss at least four games after landing on IR.

Johnson caught five of his seven targets for 79 yards during Sunday night's 26-20 loss to the Lions.
Johnson took full advantage of his increased opportunities, as he saw more playing time with Puka Nacua (knee) missing the second half of Sunday night's affair. The first-year Ram caught four of his five passes in the second half, including a 63-yarder that helped set up a scoring drive for Los Angeles. Johnson played over other options such as Jordan Whittington and Tutu Atwell, likely indicating that he'll have a fairly large role in the Rams offense as long as Nacua remains sidelined.

Johnson caught one of three targets for 11 yards during Sunday's 13-12 preseason victory against the Cowboys.
After spending nearly the entirety of the 2023 campaign on the Rams' practice squad, Johnson failed to make much of an impression in his 2024 preseason debut. Jordan Whittington (6-74-0) stole the show among the wide receivers who did start for the Rams, and he, along with Puka Nacua (knee), Cooper Kupp, Demarcus Robinson and Tutu Atwell seem like safe locks for the 53-man roster. The fifth-year pro Johnson, along with Xavier Smith, Drake Stoops, Sam Wiglusz and JJ Laap, will spend the rest of the preseason battling it out for one or two final roster spots, with the slight edge going to Johnson and Smith at the moment.

Rams' Tyler Johnson: Returning to Rams
Johnson agreed to terms with the Rams on Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Johnson spent most of last season on Los Angeles' practice squad, but he did get into the team's Week 18 game against San Francisco, catching two of three targets for eight yards and scoring a touchdown. He also has played with Tampa Bay and Houston in his NFL career, and his most prolific season came with the Buccaneers in 2021, when he recorded 36 catches for 360 yards. The news of his re-signing was shared initially by his agency, though terms were not disclosed.

Johnson caught two passes for eight yards and a touchdown during the 2023 regular season.
There was little opportunity for the fourth year wideout to produce, as the receiving corps as a whole for the Rams stayed relatively healthy apart from Cooper Kupp missing four games at the start of the year. Johnson was only activated from the practice squad once all season, earning his third touchdown in four seasons in the NFL with both the Rams and 49ers resting starters for the playoffs. Johnson is a restricted free agent in 2024, but with how little he was utilized by the Rams, he likely will have to find an opportunity elsewhere next season.

Johnson secured two of three targets for eight yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 21-20 victory against San Francisco.
With the Rams resting players, Johnson was activated from the practice squad for the second time this season and made his first appearance in a game since 2022 count. Carson Wentz threw a dart to Johnson in the back of the end zone on a crucial third down, giving Johnson an eight-yard touchdown catch, his first score since his rookie campaign with Tampa Bay in 2020. The Rams signed Johnson to the 53-man roster Tuesday.
Johnson joined the Rams' practice squad Aug. 30 after failing to make the initial 53-man roster ahead of the deadline. His sole elevation came in Week 15 against the Commanders, but he was inactive for the game. Johnson last suited up in 2022 with the Texans, for whom he played 28 offensive snaps over two games without recording a stat.

Drawing the start alongside fellow roster bubble candidate Demarcus Robinson, Johnson was unable to do much with his trio of targets on a night the Rams offense as a whole failed at every level. Ben Skowronek notably got the night off, a sign coach Sean McVay is sold on him making the 53-man roster. This would make Skowronek the fifth wideout on the team along with Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson, Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua. The Rams did keep seven wide receivers on their roster last year, but if they choose to add more depth at other positions, Robinson's utility at multiple roles in the offense might give him a slight edge over Johnson for what could be the final wide receiver slot on the team.

Johnson caught three of seven targets for 35 yards during Saturday's 34-17 preseason loss to the Raiders.
It was a game of highs and lows for the 24-year-old, as he snared a 24-yard dart from Stetson Bennett during a second-quarter drive that led to a field goal but was also part of a blown play between himself and the rookie quarterback that led to a pick-six for the Raiders. The good news for Johnson is that he still led all Rams wide receivers in yardage and tied with Demarcus Robinson for targets, a sign the duo signed in free agency are being given ample opportunity to secure spots on the final 53-man roster. Johnson will have one final opportunity to showcase his abilities in the Rams' preseason finale Saturday against the Broncos.

Johnson secured five of seven targets for 70 yards during the Rams' 34-17 preseason loss to the Chargers on Saturday.
A breakout performance in the preseason doesn't always translate to success in the regular season; just ask 2022 Rams preseason darling Lance McCutcheon. But it does help move the needle above fellow wideouts who may be on the roster bubble, and Johnson impressed with a pair of lengthy catches, including a team-high 34-yard scamper on a slant route, and led the team in catches, targets and yardage.
