Stephen Hauschka: Retires from football
Hauschka announced his retirement Friday, Kimberley A. Martin of ESPN reports.
Hauschka was a free agent at the time of this announcement. He played just one game this year for the Jaguars back in October. The 35-year-old kicker played for eight different franchises and is currently 47th on the all-time points list with 1,149 while ranking 16th with a field-goal percentage of 85.2 percent. Hauschka also won a ring as part of the Super Bowl XLVIII champion Seahawks.

Stephen Hauschka: Cut by Jaguars
The Jaguars released Hauschka on Monday.
The move was predictable after the 35-year-old kicker missed two field goals from 24 and 49 yards in Sunday's 30-14 loss to the Texans. The Jaguars didn't allow him to try another field goal despite multiple trips into Texans' territory. Jonathan Brown was signed to the active roster and is expected to be the team's starting kicker moving forward.

Jaguars' Stephen Hauschka: Misses both FGAs
Hauschka missed both field-goal attempts and converted both extra-point attempts during Sunday's 30-14 loss to the Texans.
The 35-year-old missed time with a knee injury after signing with the Jaguars in late September, and his debut with the team was an ugly one. Hauschka missed a chip shot from 24 yards wide left and alarmingly shorted his other attempt from 49 yards despite solid conditions. Jonathan Brown is on the practice squad and could receive an opportunity if Hauschka quickly doesn't show some improvement. It's unclear if/when regular kicker Josh Lambo (hip) will be able to return from injured reserve, though he's already spent the three-game minimum on the shelf..

Jaguars' Stephen Hauschka: Not on injury report
Hauchscka (knee) isn't included on Wednesday's injury report and should handle kicking duties for the Jaguars' game Sunday against the Texans.
Hauschka was the third Jacksonville kicker to miss time due to injury this season when he failed to suit up against the Bengals in Week 4, paving the way for Aldrick Rosas' promotion from the practice squad. Now that Hauschka is healthy again, he's set to make his Jaguars debut Week 5.

The 35-year-old began the week not practicing and returned as a limited participant Thursday, but he was unable to show enough to avoid the questionable tag. Hauschka signed with the Jaguars on Monday following injuries to Josh Lambo (hip) and Brandon Wright (groin). Aldrick Rosas will need to be promoted from the practice squad should Hauschka be unable to suit up.

Hauschka (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Hauschka wasn't able to practice in any capacity Wednesday, so it's a step in the right direction to see him participating on at least a limited basis. He'll work to get healthy in time to handle placekicking duties in Cincinnati on Sunday.

Hauschka signed with the Jaguars on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The Jaguars needed a new kicker with Josh Lambo (hip) on IR and Brandon Wright dealing with a groin injury. Hauschka and Aldrick Rosas both tried out with the team, and Hauschka won the job. The 35-year-old Hauschka has struggled the last two years, connecting on just 79 percent of field goals, but he'll have a chance for a fresh start in Jacksonville. However, the Jaguars have attempted just three field goals through three weeks, so his opportunities could be flaky with the new squad.

Bills' Stephen Hauschka: Bounces back
Hauschka was 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts during Monday's practice session, with his longest being from about 54 yards out, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.
The veteran missed some kicks late last week while rookie Tyler Bass seemed to be on a hot streak, so Hauschka's timing was good when the team hit the field Monday. With no preseason games, an untested kicker like Bass will have to significantly outperform the incumbent, but the Bills are allowing the two to compete. Hauschka still seems like the favorite, yet it's no sure bet at this point either.

Bills' Stephen Hauschka: Making his case
Hauschka saw the bulk of the kicking duties in Tuesday's practice after rookie Tyler Bass was given more looks Monday. Hauschka made six of seven field-goal attempts with a long from about 53 yards, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.
While we don't know the exact conditions, Bass mad six of nine Monday. He's being allowed to compete with Hauschka for the job, but the veteran was more accurate through the first significant look and will need to be clearly outmatched if the rookie is going to take his job. So far, so good for Hauschka, who had a rough 2019 season but finished in strong fashion in tough conditions over the last several games.

Bills' Stephen Hauschka: Still the frontrunner
Special teams coordinator Heath Farwell confirmed recently that Hauschka will enter the summer as the team's top kicker, but rookie Tyler Bass will have a chance to unseat the veteran in an open competition, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports. "He's had a lot of big kicks over his career, a history of good kicks in big games in the playoffs," Farwell said in reference to Hauschka. "He was four for four last year. He is still the guy and it's up to Tyler to beat them out."
Hauschka has been Buffalo's kicker for three seasons, and while he's lost some accuracy and leg strength from his Seattle days, he's done fairly well in a tough climate, especially on pressure kicks. Coach Sean McDermott also values leadership, which Hauschka provides. That said, Bass has a booming leg and is the rare kicker that actually got drafted (the Bills picked him in the sixth round in April), so it's a competition not to be dismissed. Perhaps with the extra roster flexibility rules for 2020, the Bills might even be sold into keeping two kickers -- Hauschka for anything inside 50 and Bass for long kicks and kickoffs. The longer some of the pandemic rules affect summer workouts and training camps (there's even talk of two preseason games instead of the usual four), the better Hauschka's chances of keeping his job.

Bills' Stephen Hauschka: Competition looms
Hauschka will have some competition when the Bills are able to take the field ahead of the 2020 season after the team selected kicker Tyler Bass out of Georgia Southern in the sixth round of this weekend's draft.
Hauschka struggled mightily for the first part of last season, but he finished strong by hitting his last 21 kicks (15 field-goal attempts and six extra-point attempts) if you include a fantastic performance in the wild-card loss to the Texans. Given his long track record in the NFL and standing with the Bills, he's almost certain to enter the 2020 season as the camp favorite. But the Buffalo brass is all about competition and isn't one to waste draft picks, so the fact that Bass is a sixth-rounder and not an undrafted free agent means Hauschka will have to earn his starting job in 2020, even if he'll enter camp as the incumbent.

Bills' Stephen Hauschka: Not to blame for wild-card loss
Hauschka made all four of his field-goal attempts -- from 40, 40 38 and 47 yards -- and his only extra-point try during Saturday's overtime wild-card loss to the Texans.
Plain and simple, the Bills choked this game away after building a 16-0 lead, but if it wasn't for Hauschka there wouldn't have even been an extra period. Starting in Week 14, Hauschka has been perfect on all of his kicks (15 field-goal tries and six extra-point attempts), so whatever was affecting his normal accuracy earlier in the season has dissipated, while the 47-yarder to tie the game in the final seconds of regulation was incredibly clutch. Given his long track record in the NFL and standing with the Bills, he's almost certain to enter the 2020 season as the camp favorite.
