Mitch Unrein: Dropped by Tampa
The Buccaneers released Unrein (concussion) on Wednesday with a failed physical designation, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Unrein was placed on injured reserve in the preseason due to a knee injury, but subsequent reports indicated a concussion was at the root of his absence Per Stroud, Unrein has yet to be cleared for football activities, and the Buccaneers weren't inclined to wait any longer for his concussion symptoms to dissipate. His release saves Tampa Bay $3.75 million in cap space for 2019.

Buccaneers' Mitch Unrein: Still in concussion protocol
Unrein (knee) remains in the concussion protocol, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Unrein is eligible to return from injured reserve in two weeks. The Buccaneers' defense would benefit from the defensive end's presence, but Unrein would need to participate in practice without exhibiting concussion symptoms and clear the league's concussion protocol before making an official return to the field. Expect more clarity on Unrein's injury situation as his tentative time of return approaches.

Buccaneers' Mitch Unrein: Placed on IR
Unrein (knee) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
The Buccaneers trimmed their roster to 53 players before placing Unrein on IR, which allows the defensive lineman to return from IR after Tampa Bay's first eight games of the season. In the meantime, the team will make do with the likes of Gerald McCoy, Beau Allen and first-round pick Vita Vea at defensive tackle.

Buccaneers' Mitch Unrein: Not expected to play Friday
Unrein (knee) is not expected to play in Friday's contest against Detroit, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Unrein joined the Buccaneers in March and is expected to slot in as a backup along the defensive line. It's unclear if his nagging knee injury that wound up with him finishing the 2017 season on IR is still holding him back or if he's dealing with another ailment. The team hasn't expressed concern about his regular season availability to this point, and may just be keeping the veteran out to avoid further injury in the preseason.

Buccaneers' Mitch Unrein: Heading to Tampa
Unrein (knee) has agreed to terms on a contract with the Buccaneers, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Unrein is coming off his best season as a pro, logging 32 tackles and 2.5 sacks over 12 games. The terms of his contract aren't clear, nor is where he may fit in with the Buccaneers' 4-3 defensive front. However, considering he was a defensive end in Chicago's 3-4 scheme, the 6-foot-4, 301-pound lineman will likely fit in as a defensive tackle with Tampa Bay.

Bears' Mitch Unrein: Placed on IR
Unrein (knee) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Unrein's season comes to an end after he aggravated a nagging knee injury in Sunday's loss to the 49ers. In 12 games (eight starts), Unrein recorded 32 tackles (25 solo) and 2.5 sacks, as the veteran continued to see his role grow in his third season with the team. Now sidelined, expect second-year pro Jonathan Bullard to take over as starter for the remainder of the season.

Bears' Mitch Unrein: Sustains knee injury
Unrein is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the 49ers with a knee injury.
Unrein was nursing a knee injury prior to last week's game against the Eagles, but didn't appear to show any ill effects in practice this week. Roy Robertson-Harris and Jonathan Bullard should see increased snaps at defensive end as long as Unrein is sidelined.

Bears' Mitch Unrein: Active Sunday
Unrein (knee) is active for Sunday's tilt against Philadelphia, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Unrein was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday before being unhampered in Friday's session. He'll be a full go Sunday and figures to see his typical role on defense.
