Joe Hawley: Option declined, set for free agency
The Buccaneers informed Hawley on Monday that they would decline his $2.5 million team option for the 2018 season, making the lineman an unrestricted free agent, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.
Hawley saw action in just four games for the Buccaneers during the 2018 campaign and wasn't deemed worthy of retaining in a backup role at center behind starter Ali Marpet. Per Pelissero, the Buccaneers have interest in bringing Hawley back on a cheaper contract, but the 29-year-old will presumably look around and see what kind of market he has for his services before entertaining the idea of re-signing with Tampa Bay.

Buccaneers' Joe Hawley: Returns to practice Thursday
Hawley (illness) returned to practice as a full participant Thursday, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
The veteran center has been struggling with an illness since last week and missed the Week 13 overtime loss to the Packers as a result. Hawley is slated to handle starting center duties for the balance of the campaign when healthy now that Ali Marpet (knee) is on injured reserve. Further information on his status should be available on the final injury report of the week Friday afternoon.

Buccaneers' Joe Hawley: Questionable in Week 13
Hawley (illness) is listed as questionable for Sunday's Week 13 tilt against the Packers.
Hawley was a Friday addition to the injury report with his illness, and his potential absence couldn't be more ill-timed if it does come to pass. The Buccaneers are coming off a week in which they placed starting center Ali Marpet (knee) on injured reserve, a development that leaves Hawley poised to handle Marpet's duties moving forward. Hawley's availability could come down to a game-time call, with the likes of Evan Smith, Kevin Pamphile and Caleb Benenoch all potential candidates to fill in if he can't go.
