Several thousand fans attended Saturday’s practice, and the Redskins energized the crowd with the WRs and DBs going one-on-one. When Robert Griffin III’s first pass in the drill, a deep ball to Pierre Garcon, was completed, the crowd went nuts.
Who’s here: Dezmon Briscoe, who was cut by Tampa Bay despite catching a team-best six touchdown passes for the Bucs last season, was on hand. The Bucs cut him because he skipped most of the voluntary offseason workouts and failed their conditioning test. Briscoe played for current Redskins secondary coach Raheem Morris last season. The Redskins could use his size (6-2), but he’s not considered a fast receiver. The Redskins aren’t great at this spot, but they do have better depth than a year ago. “The conditioning test, not everyone passed. I feel that was a big reason [for the release]. It stuck out with me not passing because I wasn’t there in the offseason training. They made it seem like I was out of condition which I’m not. I just have to take advantage of my opportunity now."
Who’s not: LG Kory Lichtensteiger (knee) and RB Tim Hightower (knee) didn't practice Saturday afternoon. But each had a scheduled day off as they recover from ACL surgeries last fall. LB Jonathan Goff injured his right knee during a pass play Saturday. He tore the ACL in his right knee in September while with the New York Giants. The Redskins could use an experienced ILB, although Goff is in his first season in a 3-4.
RG3 update: The Redskins unveiled part of their option game Saturday. The first time they showed it, WR Santana Moss motioned into the backfield and he was Robert Griffin III’s pitch man. But the play went nowhere. The next time, Griffin tossed a wild pitch to running back Roy Helu. Griffin had an uneven day once again. His accuracy was a little off, throwing too far inside to a receiver running a crossing route. He also struggled throwing to his left in a drill with no DBs. He also was too quick with his release and didn’t complete a pass in one drill until he was more patient with his delivery.
