Fresh off a career season as the Patriots' top wide receiver, Jakobi Meyers will likely be staying in New England in 2022. A day before the start of the NFL's legal tampering period, New England has used a second-round tender on the pending restricted free agent, Meyer's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN and NFL Media on Sunday.
Undrafted out of NC State in 2019, the 25-year-old Meyers emerged as the Patriots' steadiest player at his position over the last two seasons. A second-round tender would pay the receiver a projected $3.98 million in 2022, a notable raise from his $850,000 payout last season. Meyers will still be free to negotiate with other teams, if he chooses, but the Patriots will have the opportunity to match any offer he gets, as well as receive a second-round draft pick as compensation in the event he signs elsewhere.

After starting just one game as a rookie, Meyers became one of the club's top pass targets in 2020, logging 59 catches for 729 yards during an otherwise underwhelming year for the Patriots' offense. His numbers improved last year despite New England adding multiple big-money pass catchers last offseason, finishing 2021 with a team-high 83 catches for 866 yards and two scores.
In other restricted free agent news, the Patriots have decided not to tender fullback Jakob Johnson, per ESPN. The former undrafted reserve has been with the team since 2019, when he came over from the German Football League.
