The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will attempt to start a season 3-0 for the fifth time in franchise history when they host the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. Tampa Bay, which has begun the 2023 NFL season with wins against Minnesota and Chicago, last won its first three contests in 2005. The Eagles also will try to improve to 3-0 after starting the campaign with victories at New England and versus the Vikings at home. The regular-season series is even at eight wins apiece, but the Buccaneers have won four straight overall meetings after posting a 31-15 home victory in the wild-card round of the 2021 playoffs.

Kickoff from Raymond James Stadium is set for 7:15 p.m. ET. Philadelphia is a 5-point favorite in the latest Eagles vs. Buccaneers odds, while the over/under for total points scored is 45. Why the Eagles can cover

Philadelphia has been just as strong rushing the ball as it has been defending the run. The Eagles are second in the NFL with an average of 178 yards per game on the ground, with D'Andre Swift ranking third in rushing with that exact amount following his career-best 175-yard performance in the team's 34-28 victory against Minnesota last week. The 24-year-old, who made just one carry for three yards in his debut with Philadelphia, ran for a touchdown in the win, while Jalen Hurts had a pair of rushing scores.

Including the playoffs, it was the fourth game in the last two seasons in which the Eagles recorded at least 250 rushing yards and three TD runs, two more than the other 31 NFL teams combined in that span. Philadelphia is 29th in the league in passing offense (162.5 yards), but wideout DeVonta Smith came up with a winning effort against the Vikings. The 2020 Heisman Trophy winner posted his fifth 100-yard performance in eight regular-season games, registering 131 yards and a touchdown on four receptions. See who to back at SportsLine

Why the Buccaneers can cover

Tampa Bay's move from the legendary Tom Brady to Baker Mayfield at quarterback has not deterred Mike Evans a bit thus far this year. The 30-year-old wideout is on his way to his 10th consecutive 1,000-yard season as he is fourth in the NFL with 237 receiving yards - the second-most through two games of a campaign in franchise history behind DeSean Jackson's 275 in 2018. Evans racked up 171 yards and a touchdown in six catches in last week's 27-17 triumph over Chicago for his eighth career 170-yard performance - one more than all players in Tampa Bay history combined.

The Buccaneers have been strong on the other side of the ball as they rank ninth in the NFL in total defense (302.5 yards allowed per game) and second against the run (54). They are tied for fifth with eight sacks, six of which they recorded versus the Bears. Linebacker Shaquil Barrett returned an interception 4 yards for a touchdown while safety Christian Izien also picked off a pass in the victory. The 23-year-old rookie joined Brenard Wilson (1979), Ray Isom (1987) and Robert Lester (2013) as the only undrafted players since 1967 with an interception in each of their first two NFL games. See who to back at SportsLine.
