Bills free safety Jairus Byrd has made great strides in the past 24 hours, and it now looks like he’ll be ready to face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

“It’s something that’s there," Byrd said, "but hopefully as things progress it will stay on track and I’ll be good Sunday.”

Byrd missed Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury but was able to participate on a limited basis Thursday. He didn’t appear to be favoring the injured leg during the portion of practice opened to the media.

Byrd revealed he actually suffered the injury before Sunday’s game against the Chiefs. He declined to elaborate on the exact timetable of events. He did play the entire game in the 35-17 win over Kansas City, and even tied for the team lead with seven tackles. He also had a late INT.

Barnett limited, Martin out: LB Nick Barnett, a central figure in Buffalo’s defense, was officially listed as limited on Thursday. It looked like a day of rest for Barnett during the open portion of practice. He was listed as having a knee injury. Barnett and Gailey said it was a precautionary measure and that Barnett will be fine for Sunday. WR Ruvell Martin (ankle) did not practice and is out for Sunday’s game.

Dareus returns: DT Marcell Dareus returned to the practice field on Thursday. He left for his hometown of Birmingham, Ala. earlier in the week to be with his family following the death of his younger brother.
