The Bills are likely to see their share of adverse weather conditions during the course of the season. They received some preparation on Sunday.

A torrential downpour hit Pittsford during the second half of Buffalo’s afternoon practice, but the team was able to stay on the field and get all of its work done.

“It’s not something you want to do, but it’s good for us,” coach Chan Gailey said. “You need a day like that so that you can handle a wet ball and everybody can talk about ball security on offense and you can talk about stripping the ball out on defense. ... I thought we handled it well.”

“I don’t know that guys love doing it but we have to -- this is the weather that we play in,” QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said. “We get a couple of these games every year so you’ve got to be able to deal with the elements, learn what you can and can’t do.”

What stood out: TE Scott Chandler continues to have a strong camp. He made a terrific catch on a strike from QB Vince Young in red-zone work. ... Rookie Ron Brooks keeps making strides and had an INT in team work. ... WR T.J. Graham had an impressive deep catch on a throw from QB Tyler Thigpen after bobbling the football. ... Reserves Alex Carrington, Robert Eddins and Kyle Moore fared well in one-on-one pass rush drills. ... The team ended the practice with a goal-line drill. The first-team offense scored on all three attempts, while the second-team offense had one TD.

Injury update: WR Derek Hagan left practice briefly after receiving a cut on his right knee following a hard fall but was able to return. DL Spencer Johnson (left shoulder) was limited. SS Josh Nesbitt (undisclosed), CB Justin Rogers (hamstring), TE Kevin Brock (shoulder) and TE Mike Caussin (knee) did not participate.
