Chilo Rachal was so upset when the Bears demoted him from his starting guard position last week, he left the team facility in a huff. Though he returned the next day, his emotional state reportedly was not good and Chicago placed him on the reserve/non-football injury list and ended his season.
With Chris Spencer starting at left guard and Lance Louis starting on the right side as they took the field on Sunday against Minnesota (Chicago ended up with a 28-10 lead), the Bears dressed no backup interior linemen. Which is now a huge problem considering Louis, probably the team’s best offensive lineman, left the game with a knee injury.
He left the game after taking this shot from Vikings defensive end Jared Allen smacked him (h/t to The Big Lead).
Gabe Carimi, who was demoted from his starting right tackle position last week, has now taken Louis’ place at right guard (here are other notable injuries from the day).
From J’Marcus Webb at left tackle to Roberto Garza at center, Chicago’s offensive line, for much of the season, has been a disaster. With a demoted tackle now playing guard, it’s unlikely that it’ll improve much before the end of the day.
