Yahoo Sports reports that Josh Howard, who is from Winston Salem and went to Wake Forest, is working out in Carolina with the Knicks and Bobcats. The Charlotte Observer reports that the Bobcats have confirmed Howard is working out for the team.

Howard has never recovered from a knee injury several years ago, and struggled with injury again last season with Utah. But the Bobcats could very much use a veteran of his type on the roster to fill in minutes on the wing, with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist likely to have some growing pain offensively.

The Knicks could also use Howard, who fits with their scheme of older players with injury issues who like to shoot mid-range jumpshots.

For what it's worth, Howard's former teammate Desagana Diop is very excited about the idea of Howard coming to Charlotte and playing with him again.
