  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Optioned to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Dingler to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

There's currently no room for Dingler on the big-league roster, but he could get a look at some point in 2024 if injury should strike at the catcher position. For now, the second-round pick will catch regularly at Toledo.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Ready for game action

Dingler (elbow) will come off the bench and work behind the plate in Friday's spring game against the Phillies, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

The 25-year-old underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow during the offseason, and he's now game ready after being limited with his throwing at the start of camp. Dingler was added to Detroit's 40-man roster in November in order to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft, and he could make his MLB debut at some point in 2024.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Set to throw to bases this week

Dingler (elbow) is scheduled to throw to bases this week as part of his rehab program for the arthroscopic right elbow procedure he underwent in the offseason, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The Tigers are easing the young catcher along in his throwing program as he ramps back up from the elbow procedure, but he's otherwise able to perform all baseball activities. With that in mind, Dingler could be able to make his spring debut early in the Tigers' Grapefruit League schedule as a designated hitter, though it's unclear when he'll be ready to catch in games.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Recovering from elbow surgery

Dingler is recovering from arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

It's not clear when the procedure was performed, but Dingler has already begun a throwing program and is able to do all other baseball activities. The 25-year-old catcher was added to the Tigers' 40-man roster over the offseason and could debut at some point in 2024.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Gets spot on 40-man

The Tigers selected Dingler to their 40-man roster Tuesday.

Dingler delivered an .839 OPS with 16 home runs and 58 RBI over 89 total major-league games in 2023. The 25-year-old catcher finished out the season with Triple-A Toledo and could make his major-league debut at some point during the 2024 campaign.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Promoted to Triple-A

The Tigers promoted Dingler to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Dingler has been very solid at the plate this season with Double-A Erie, slashing .254/.372/.464 with nine homers and 42 RBI across 218 plate appearances. The 24-year-old backstop will now make his way to Triple-A for the first time in his career and could see the majors next season if his bat holds up against tougher competition.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Mashing since returning from injury

Dingler is hitting .423 with three home runs and one steal in seven games since returning from a knee injury for Double-A Erie.

He also hit .448 with four home runs and two steals in eight games during a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland. Dingler turns 25 in September, so he is old for Double-A and especially old for Single-A, but there's no denying this is the best stretch of his professional career. The 38th overall pick in 2020, Dingler has a 47.6 percent hard-hit rate and should soon earn a promotion to Triple-A.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Resumes baseball activitiy

Dingler (knee) resumed light baseball activity this week, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Dingler underwent surgery on his torn meniscus in mid-March. He's making progress but is still a while away from game action.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Undergoes surgery on right knee

Dingler will be out at least four weeks after undergoing surgery Tuesday on his right knee, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

It was a meniscectomy procedure, the removal of a torn meniscus, and this almost certainly stems from the knee soreness that knocked Dingler out of the 2022 Arizona Fall League. He likely won't be ready for minor-league action before mid-May.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Available for spring training

Dingler (knee) is listed as an available reserve for Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

Dingler's stint in the Arizona Fall League was cut short due to a sore knee, but he appears to have received a clean bill of health upon reporting to Florida for spring training. The 24-year-old catcher made his spring debut off the bench in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Phillies in the Grapefruit League opener, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout as a backup designated hitter. Dingler looks like he could get the chance to pick up a couple of at-bats again Monday.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Recovering from knee injury

Dingler will miss the remainder of the Arizona Fall League after tests on his sore knee returned negative Sunday, Emily Waldon of Baseball America reports.

Dingler won't require surgery to address the injury and should be a full participant at the start of spring training, but the catching prospect will miss the remainder of the fall slate. The 24-year-old reported to Arizona for more work after slashing .238/.333/.419 with 39 extra-base hits across 447 plate appearances for Double-A Erie.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Moves to minor-league camp

Dingler was reassigned to minor-league camp Friday, Emily Waldon of The Athletic reports.

Dingler was never likely to last long in big-league camp, as he's yet to reach Triple-A and struggled to a .578 OPS in 50 Double-A games last season. He may need to conquer that level before earning a move to Triple-A Toledo.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Invited to major-league camp

Dingler was invited to join the Tigers' big-league spring training Saturday.

Dingler will join most of the team's top prospects in major-league camp, though he's not knocking on the door in the way that Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene are. He's yet to play above Double-A and struggled mightily at that level last season, hitting .202/.264/.314 with a 29.8 percent strikeout rate in 50 games.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Returns from injured list

Dingler (finger) was reinstated from the 7-day minor-league injured list Thursday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Dingler spent nearly a month on the injured list due to a fractured finger on his left hand, but he joined Low-A Lakeland for a rehab assignment recently. Across his three rehab games, the 22-year-old went 4-for-12 with a double, two RBI and a run. He'll attempt to build on his results with the Double-A club to close out the season after he slashed .201/.268/.328 with three homers, 17 runs, 17 RBI and a stolen base in his first 36 games at Double-A Erie.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Rehabbing at Low-A

Dingler (finger) began a rehab assignment at Low-A Lakeland over the weekend and has gone 1-for-9 with an RBI over his first two games with the affiliate.

Double-A Erie placed Dingler on the 7-day injured list Aug. 6 with a fractured finger tip on his left hand, but the 22-year-old doesn't look like he'll be in store for an extended absence. Assuming the finger causes him no issues in his subsequent rehab games, Dingler could be ready to rejoin Erie by the end of the week.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Out at least two weeks

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Dingler would be sidelined at Double-A Erie for at least two weeks after fracturing the tip of a finger on his left hand Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Hinch indicated that Dingler's injury isn't a major concern and likely won't sideline the backstop for the rest of the season, but a more precise timeline for the 22-year-old won't be available until he gets his finger rescanned in late August. Since receiving a promotion to Erie in mid-June, Dingler is slashing .201/.268/.328 with a 27.5 percent strikeout rate across 149 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Lands on injured list

Dingler was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list Friday due to a fractured finger on his left hand, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Dingler went 1-for-5 with two runs and a strikeout in Wednesday's game for Double-A Erie, but he apparently sustained a finger injury. It's not yet clear when the 22-year-old will be able to return.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Gets promotion to Double-A

Dingler was promoted to Double-A Erie on Sunday.

Detroit selected Dingler with the 38th overall pick in last year's draft and it did not take the backstop long to progress past High-A ball. In 31 games with High-A West Michigan, Dingler posted an impressive .297/.387/.568 slash line with eight homers and 24 RBI across 137 plate appearances. The only minor concern for Dingler at this point is that he struck out over a quarter of the time during first stop in the minors, but the Tigers clearly think he's ready to handle Double-A pitching nonetheless.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Joining big-league camp

Dingler was invited to the Tigers' big-league camp on Saturday.

While Dingler will get the chance to practice with the team's major-league coaches, he's unlikely to receive serious consideration for a roster spot. The 2020 second-round pick was denied his chance to make his professional debut last year due to the canceled minor-league season, so he has plenty of work to do to climb the ladder.
