Fitzgerald has recorded three multi-hit games this season, and he's batting .313 with a .915 OPS over 34 plate appearances. He remains in a utility role, but he's done well when in the lineup, posting one home run, three RBI, six runs scored, two doubles, a triple and four stolen bases. Fitzgerald's lack of an everyday role limits his fantasy viability, and his best chance at playing time is at shortstop, though Nick Ahmed has held his own there by batting .262 over 27 contests. Fitzgerald has also played in center field occasionally versus southpaws when Jung Hoo Lee is out of the lineup, though that has not been a strict platoon situation.

The 26-year-old provides cover around the infield and can also play in center, though the Giants' outfield hasn't varied much this season. Fitzgerald doesn't have an obvious path to playing time in the Giants' righty-heavy infield, so he's likely to remain a utility player unless he commands a larger role with his hitting.

Making just his second start of the season and first in center field, Fitzgerald flashed his speed against a makeshift battery of Patrick Corbin and catcher Drew Millas, who was called up by the Nats ahead of the game with Keibert Ruiz feeling under the weather. The bottom of the Giants' batting order drove the offense in this one, as Nick Ahmed (the No. 8 hitter) and Fitzgerald (No. 9) combined for half of the team's 12 hits, both its extra-base hits and eight total runs plus RBI. Fitzgerald went 34-for-37 on steal attempts across all levels in 2023 and slashed .292/.365/.511 over 121 games between Double-A and Triple-A, so if he can carve out a consistent role as a super-utility player, he could have some surprising fantasy value.

Fitzgerald has a crowded path to the majors, especially after the Giants signed Jorge Soler and Matt Chapman. Fitzgerald's best asset is versatility -- he can provide cover in the infield and in center field. Even then, Marco Luciano, Casey Schmitt or Nick Ahmed are more likely to get chances at shortstop, the Giants' most open position this spring. The 26-year-old Fitzgerald hit .219 over 10 games in the majors last season, but he'll likely need to bide his time at Triple-A Sacramento again in 2024.
