  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Hits off tee Wednesday

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said that Rutschman (oblique) hit off a tee Wednesday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. He was not swinging at full effort, but it's a step beyond the dry swings Rutschman took Tuesday. Rutschman will continue to go through a hitting progression as he works his way back from a strained left oblique. A clearer picture of his timeline to return from the 10-day injured list should be available later this month.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Takes dry swings Tuesday

Rutschman (oblique) took dry swings Tuesday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. The swings were low intensity and he didn't hit a ball, but it's still a step forward for Rutschman. The Orioles will wait to see how he recovers before determining the next step in his rehab. Rutschman has already been ruled out through the All-Star break and, given where he's at in his rehab, it seems unlikely he'll be ready for the first game of the second half.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Return date still TBD

Rutschman (oblique) said Sunday that he's improving, but he admitted that he's uncertain if he'll be activated from the 10-day injured list for the Orioles' first game following the All-Star break, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Interim manager Tony Mansolino previously ruled Rutschman out for the remainder of the first half but expressed optimism that the catcher would be ready to go after the break. Since being placed on the IL on June 21, the backstop has been able to do some throwing, but he has yet to resume swinging a bat, according to Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun. Until Rutschman proves that he can hit against high-velocity pitching without any discomfort, a firm target date for his return will be elusive.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Out through All-Star break

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Sunday that Rutschman's left oblique strain is considered mild, but the catcher is still expected to remain on the 10-day injured list through the All-Star break, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Rutschman was held out of the lineup for the first two games of this weekend's series versus the Yankees due to what was initially described as abdominal tightness, but he was placed on the IL on Saturday when an MRI confirmed an oblique strain. Even though the backstop's injury is seemingly a Grade 1 strain, the Orioles won't rush him back early and will give him at least four weeks to recover. Gary Sanchez is expected to serve as Baltimore's primary backstop while Rutschman is on the shelf.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Out again Saturday

Rutschman (abdomen) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees. Rutschman was a late scratch from Friday's lineup due to abdominal tightness, and he'll sit out a second consecutive game while he continues to recover. Gary Sanchez will start behind the plate and bat seventh. Per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, Rutschman underwent an MRI on Saturday.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Hits homer in loss

Rutschman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Monday's 7-1 loss to the Rays. Rutschman hit his seventh home run of the season, his first in nine games, to account for the only Orioles run of the game. The pop from the 27-year-old's bat has been largely missing as of late; he has just four extra-base hits in his last 19 games. The catcher is slashing .233/.325/.384 in 235 at-bats, with his .708 OPS more closely resembling his .709 mark from 2024 than the first two seasons of his career in which he was over .800.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Getting day off

Rutschman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. The 27-year-old will receive his first day off since June 1 while Gary Sanchez starts at catcher and Gunnar Henderson serves as the Orioles' designated hitter. Though Rutschman's production has been disappointing relative to his draft-day price, he's picked up the pace over the last 11 games, slashing .366/.438/.561 with two home runs, eight runs and four RBI.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Swinging hot bat to begin June

Rutschman went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Angels. Rutschman turned in his fifth multi-hit game of the month, as he's begun to find a groove at the dish recently. Through 41 at-bats in June, the switch-hitting backstop is batting .366 with two homers, two doubles, four RBI and eight runs scored. Rutschman has played in 64 of Baltimore's 69 games in 2025, so he's offered a consistent level of availability at a position than can be hard to find near-everyday players in fantasy, though is .699 OPS is still underwhelming.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Swats homer

Rutschman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Mariners. Rutschman clubbed his sixth home run of the campaign, tagging Emerson Hancock for a game-tying solo shot in the sixth frame. The catcher has gone 4-for-9 in his two appearances in June, which could provide a spark for Rutschman after he stumbled out of the gates this season. Through 222 plate appearances, Rutschman is slashing .214/.306/.352.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Resting Sunday

Rutschman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. Rutschman appears to be getting some routine rest in an afternoon game after he started each of Baltimore's last three contests. Maverick Handley will get the nod behind the dish.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Not in lineup Monday

Rutschman (head) isn't part of the Orioles' starting lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals. Rutschman was removed from Sunday's game shortly after taking a foul tip to his catcher's mask in the third inning. It's still unknown if he is in concussion protocol, but interim manager Tony Mansolino called Rutschman's exit precautionary. Maverick Handley will catch and bat ninth in place of Rutschman.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Early exit deemed precautionary

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said after Sunday's 5-1 win over the Red Sox that Rutschman (head) was removed from the game as a precaution, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Rutschman took a foul tip to his catcher's mask in the bottom of the third inning but stayed in the game to play one more inning behind the dish. The Orioles removed Rutschman from the contest the next time his turn in the batting order came up in the top of the fifth, with Maverick Handley catching the final five innings. Mansolino was unwilling to say Sunday whether Rutschman was in concussion protocol, as the Orioles instead plan to monitor his condition over the next 24 hours before determining his availability moving forward. The Orioles will face a quick turnaround with a Memorial Day game against the Cardinals that begins at 3:05 p.m. ET, so Rutschman may not be cleared to play in that contest.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Leaves after foul ball to mask

The Orioles removed Rutschman in the top of the fifth inning of Sunday's game against the Red Sox due to an apparent injury, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. He went 0-for-2 at the plate prior to departing. Baltimore has yet to provide an explanation for Rutschman's early exit, though Meyer notes that the backstop appeared to be in some discomfort after taking a foul ball to his catcher's mask in the bottom of the third inning. Rutschman stayed in the game and played an inning behind the plate after that, but he was lifted when his next turn in the lineup came up in the top of the fifth. Maverick Handley came on to replace Rutschman, who could be receiving an evaluation for a concussion.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Resting for second game of day

Rutschman is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Twins. Rutschman will receive a breather for the second game of the day after he went 0-for-3 with a walk while catching all nine innings of the Orioles' 6-3 loss in Game 1. Maverick Handley will replace him behind the dish in Game 2.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Back in Baltimore lineup Monday

Rutschman (hand) will start at catcher and bat third in Monday's contest versus the Yankees, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Rutschman sat out Sunday's game against the Tigers with a sore right hand after he injured it blocking a ball in the dirt Saturday, but he's ready to go for the series opener. The 27-year-old will bring a disappointing .677 OPS into play Monday.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Average drops under Mendoza Line

Rutschman went 0-for-4 with a walk in Saturday's win over the Reds. Rutschman began the season with hits in 12 of his first 14 outings, but he's now hitless in his last 19 at-bats to drop his batting average under the Mendoza Line at .192 on the season. However, he entered play Saturday with an elite 38.8 percent squared-up rate, per Statcast, which suggests Rutschman is still seeing the ball quite well in the early going. Fantasy managers should keep exercising patience with the switch-hitting All-Star backstop, who continues to regularly occupy a premium spot in Baltimore's lineup.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Hits first homer since Opening Day

Rutschman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays. Entering Saturday's game, Rutschman had failed to log a home run since hitting two of them on Opening Day. He ended his drought in the sixth inning, when he took Bowden Francis deep to right-center field for a 426-foot solo homer to make it a 3-3 game. Rutschman has started the season slashing .265/.357/.469 with seven walks, nine runs scored, three home runs and five RBI across 56 plate appearances.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Not starting Saturday

Rutschman isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals. Rutschman will get his first opportunity to rest Saturday after starting the season 8-for-31 with two homers, three RBI and six runs scored after eight games. While he's out, Gary Sanchez will catch for Tomoyuki Sugano and bat eighth.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Goes deep twice in win

Rutschman went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored in Thursday's 12-2 win over Toronto. After homering in the first inning off Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios, Rutschman went deep once again during the eighth frame to add to the Opening Day rout. Rutschman's hot bat in spring training appears to have carried into the regular season to begin the year, as the star backstop went 15-for-42 (.357) with three long balls and eight RBI in the Grapefruit League.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Showcases power in BP session

Rutschman hit home runs in two live at-bats against Grayson Rodriguez and Albert Suarez during Monday's spring training workout, The Baltimore Sun reports. Rutschman cratered down the stretch last season with a .207/.282/.303 slash line in the second half, but a long offseason to rest up, the 27-year-old catcher looked re-energized on the eve of the Orioles' first full-squad workout of camp. Perhaps in an effort to prevent Rutschman from wearing down again, the Orioles could look to build in more days off for him or deploy him as a designated hitter more frequently, after he started 100 games behind the plate in 2024 between the regular season and playoffs. Rutschman will have a new backup catcher this season, as the Orioles let James McCann walk in free agency while bringing aboard Gary Sanchez on a one-year, $8.5 million deal.
