Cubs' Riley Thompson: Part of Double-A rotation
Thompson (shoulder) made his season debut Sunday for Double-A Tennessee, tossing three innings and giving up two earned runs on two hits while striking out five in the affiliate's 9-5 loss to Chattanooga.
Thompson was shut down for the entire 2021 season while dealing with right shoulder tightness, but he reported to spring training at full health. Thompson has missed the entire season due to recurring shoulder tightness but could return sometime in August, Kyle Glaser of Baseball America reports.
Thompson entered the season as one of Chicago's top pitching prospects, but he is already 25, so this injury came at a terrible time with regards to his development.
