  • Padres' Sean Reynolds: Optioned to Triple-A

Reynolds was optioned to Triple-A El Paso by the Padres on Saturday.

Reynolds struck out four and didn't allow a hit over two scoreless Cactus League innings but is nonetheless an early cut. The 25-year-old really struggled at El Paso down the stretch last season after being acquired from the Marlins in the Garrett Cooper trade. A better start in 2024 will help him push for his first big-league appearance.

  • Padres' Sean Reynolds: Moved to San Diego

The Marlins traded Reynolds and Garrett Cooper to the Padres on Tuesday in exchange for Ryan Weathers, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

Reynolds was originally drafted as a first baseman and corner outfielder back in 2016, but he has since converted fully into a relief pitcher and was sporting a 2.77 ERA with 54 strikeouts through 48.2 innings this season between Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Jacksonville. The 25-year-old will likely report to the Triple-A affiliate of the Padres in El Paso.

  • Marlins' Sean Reynolds: Sent to Double-A

The Marlins optioned Reynolds to Double-A Pensacola on Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Miami added Reynolds, a converted first baseman, to the 40-man roster over the winter after he thrived in his first season of full-time pitching in the lower minors in 2022. Between stops at High-A Beloit and Pensacola, the 24-year-old right-handed reliever turned in a 4.13 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 66:24 K:BB in 52.1 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .201 average.

  • Marlins' Sean Reynolds: Added to 40-man roster

Reynolds' contract was selected by the Marlins on Thursday.

Reynolds was selected by the Marlins in the fourth round of the 2016 first-year player draft, but he's failed to progress higher than the Low-A level. The 24-year-old was likely added to Miami's 40-man roster to protect him from the upcoming Rule 5 draft.
