Player Outlook
The 29-year-old southpaw dazzled in 2022 with a 2.13 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 59:10 K:BB through 50.2 innings, but shoulder trouble rendered him far less effective last season and he underwent surgery in October. Dylan Lee's healthy to begin the spring, but he faces plenty of competition for a spot in the bullpen after Atlanta added Aaron Bummer, Reynaldo Lopez, Ken Giles and other relief arms this offseason. As Lee still has minor-league options remaining, he could find himself on the outside looking in when camp breaks if he doesn't force the issue with his performance.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Filling long-relief role

Lee allowed three unearned runs on two hits and a walk over two innings in Thursday's loss to the Mets. He struck out two. The left-hander entered the game with Atlanta already down 7-0, and an Austin Riley error cushioned the blow to his ERA. Lee has been used in low-leverage long relief spots to begin the season, working more than one inning in all four of his appearances with a 0.00 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 5:3 K:BB through eight innings. While the early ratios are impressive, Lee has yet to collect a win, hold or save, and his fantasy value will remain limited without a more prominent role in the bullpen.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Fans five in relief outing Sunday

Lee gave up two runs on two hits over two innings of relief in Sunday's split-squad game against the Orioles. He struck out five without walking a batter. The southpaw got taken deep by minor leaguer John Rhodes in the sixth inning for a two-run shot, but Lee was otherwise dominant Sunday. He has a stellar 13:0 K:BB through eight innings this spring, but keeping the ball in the park has been a problem as he's served up five homers. He's expected to break camp in a lower-leverage role for Atlanta as the fourth lefty in the bullpen behind A.J. Minter (finger), Aaron Bummer and Tyler Matzek, but if he keeps getting hit hard, the organization has plenty of pitching depth and Lee has minor-league options remaining.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Not guaranteed roster spot

Lee (shoulder) will need to pitch well this spring to ensure he breaks camp on the big-league roster, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. The 29-year-old southpaw dazzled in 2022 with a 2.13 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 59:10 K:BB through 50.2 innings, but shoulder trouble rendered him far less effective last season and he underwent surgery in October. • Braves' Dylan Lee: Shifts to 60-day IL

Lee (shoulder) was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Sunday. The left-hander landed on the shelf with shoulder inflammation last week, and his move to the 60-day IL officially ends his season. Lee was a decent bullpen piece for Atlanta in 2023 with a 4.18 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 24:8 K:BB across 23.2 innings.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Activated from injured list

Lee (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game reports. Lee had been out since May with left shoulder inflammation but is finally ready to go following a long rehab. He will provide Atlanta manager Brian Snitker with another southpaw in the bullpen.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Building up to multi-inning role

Lee (shoulder) will be built up to serve as a multi-inning option out of Atlanta's bullpen once he returns from the injured list, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Lee was originally slated to return this week, but the transition into a new role could cause him to be out through the end of August. The 29-year-old lefty holds a 3.10 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 20.1 innings this season and has been out since May with left shoulder inflammation.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Cleared to face hitters

Lee (shoulder) is scheduled to face hitters in live batting practice Tuesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Lee is expected to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment over the weekend if all goes well during the live BP session. The 28-year-old southpaw has been on the injured list since May 19 with left shoulder inflammation and will likely need to make multiple appearances in the minors before Atlanta is comfortable adding him back to its bullpen.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Throws bullpen session

Lee (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Saturday in Milwaukee, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Lee is traveling with the NL East leaders on their current road trip and is scheduled to throw another bullpen session next week in Boston. If all goes well in that workout, Atlanta can maybe start thinking about sending him out on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 28-year-old left-hander has been sidelined since mid-May because of shoulder inflammation.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Doing flat-ground throwing

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Tuesday that Lee (shoulder) is still limited to flat-ground throwing, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Lee was placed on the injured list in mid-May because of inflammation in his left shoulder and he's not yet ready to take the next step forward in his throwing progression. There won't be a clear timeline for his return to the major-league roster until he begins doing some mound work.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Working as opener Wednesday

Lee will serve as Atlanta's opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Lee will pitch the first inning or two for Atlanta as the club navigates its first turn through the rotation without Max Fried (forearm), who was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday. In 17 appearances thus far, Lee has pitched well with a 2.81 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB over 16 innings. Atlanta doesn't have a clear designated bulk reliever to work behind Lee, but Collin McHugh and Michael Tonkin should both be able to give the club multiple innings, if necessary.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Collects seventh hold

Lee gave up a run in two-thirds of an inning while walking one and striking out one to record his seventh hold of the season in a 3-1 loss to the Phillies. The 28-year-old southpaw finished up the seventh inning for starter Charlie Morton to protect a 1-0 lead but then got the hook after issuing a one-out walk to Rhys Hoskins in the eighth, only to see Collin McHugh fall apart and let Hoskins plus two more Phillies cross the plate. The deadline trade of Will Smith did move Lee up slightly in the pecking order when it comes to lefties in the Atlanta bullpen, but he remains firmly behind A.J. Minter (18 holds) when it comes to high-leverage duty despite Lee's impressive 1.61 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 31:4 K:BB through 28 innings on the year.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Tallies third hold

Lee gave up a hit and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning in Sunday's extra-innings loss to the Dodgers. The left-hander took over for Spencer Strider to begin the seventh inning and retired the first two batters he faced before giving up a single to Chris Taylor and getting the hook. Lee remains third in the pecking order among southpaws in the Atlanta bullpen behind Will Smith and A.J. Minter, but that hasn't stopped him from posting a 0.59 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB through 15.1 innings over 11 appearances since rejoining the big-league roster in late May.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Sent to Triple-A

Lee was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday. He was promoted Tuesday as bullpen depth and didn't get in a game before heading back to the minors.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Starting World Series Game 4

Lee will start Game 4 of the World Series against the Astros on Saturday. Manager Brian Snitker had previously indicated the team would go with an opener in Game 4 with a 2-1 series lead, but that opener was a mystery until Saturday afternoon. It will be Lee, who has made two appearances so far this postseason, allowing three hits -- including a homer -- over 2.2 innings. Lee spent most of the year at Triple-A, not debuting for the big-league team until the final days of the regular season.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Joins NLCS roster

Lee was added to Atlanta's NLCS roster Wednesday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. The 27-year-old wasn't included on the initial roster for the NLCS, but he'll join the bullpen mix with Huascar Ynoa (shoulder) going down with an injury. Lee made his big-league debut during the final weekend of the regular season, and he spent the rest of the year at Triple-A Gwinnett, where he posted a 1.54 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 54:6 K:BB across 46.2 innings.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Returns to majors

Lee was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. The 27-year-old was sent to Triple-A last weekend but will quickly rejoin the big-league club with Edgar Santana (ribs) heading to the injured list. Lee has a 1.54 EA, 0.76 WHIP and 54:6 K:BB over 46.2 innings for Gwinnett this season, and he's looking to make his MLB debut.

  • Braves' Dylan Lee: Gets first call-up

Atlanta selected Lee's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett ahead of Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. He'll assume the active roster spot of fellow reliever Edgar Santana, who was placed on the paternity list in a corresponding move. After Atlanta used six relievers to cover nine frames in a bullpen game in Tuesday's 6-1 win, Lee could be needed to eat innings in Wednesday's series finale if starter Ian Anderson is knocked out of the contest early. Over 45.2 innings at Triple-A this season, the 27-year-old lefty has posted a 1.58 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 52:6 K:BB.
