Martin (elbow) was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday Martin underwent Tommy John surgery last May and was never going to be an option for the White Sox to begin the season. The 27-year-old has resumed throwing off a mound and will continue building up his arm before hopefully starting a minor-league rehab assignment sometime during the first half.... See More ... White Sox's Davis Martin: Throws another bullpen session
Martin (elbow) threw his second bullpen session of the spring Monday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Martin threw 20 fastballs in the session and sat in the 84-to-86 mile-per-hour range. He will incorporate changeups during his next bullpen session next Monday and before the end of spring will progress to throwing off the mound twice per week. The 27-year-old is unlikely to be an option for the White Sox before the second half.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Davis Martin: Gets Tommy John surgery
Martin announced Wednesday that he underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. The White Sox talked Martin up as a rotation candidate this spring, but he got sent to Triple-A Charlotte before Opening Day and his forearm/elbow began barking after just three starts with the affiliate. Given that Tommy John surgery usually entails a recovery timeline of 14-to-16 months, the 26-year-old will likely be sidelined until well into the second half of the 2024 season.... See More ... White Sox's Davis Martin: Placed on minor-league IL
Triple-A Charlotte placed Martin on its 7-day injured list Wednesday with a right forearm strain, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Martin has enjoyed a nice season-opening stretch in the Charlotte rotation, delivering a 2.81 ERA with 20 strikeouts through three starts covering 16 innings. It's unclear at this point when he might be able to return to action on the farm.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Davis Martin: Sent to minors
The White Sox optioned Martin to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The right-hander has struggled with a 5.25 ERA in 12 innings of Grapefruit League action. That said, Martin did post a respectable, albeit unimpressive 4.83 ERA and provided rotation depth last season, so he's a likely bet to rejoin the White Sox at some point in 2023.... See More ... White Sox's Davis Martin: Over biceps injury
Martin said Friday that the right biceps soreness which forced him from his final start of last season was a non-issue this offseason, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. Martin took a couple weeks off from throwing after the season and then went through his normal offseason training. The right-hander said his goal is to throw 170-180 innings this season, and the White Sox might need him to with Mike Clevinger's status up in the air due to an ongoing MLB investigation into domestic violence allegations.... White Sox's Davis Martin: Exits with right biceps soreness
Martin was removed from Wednesday's start against the Twins in the top of the second inning due to right biceps soreness. Martin struggled mightily to begin Wednesday's matchup, giving up nine runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one in 1.2 innings prior to his departure. It's possible that his injury contributed to his struggles, although it's not yet clear whether the issue will impact his offseason program. The right-hander made 14 appearances (nine starts) in the majors this year and posted a 4.83 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 63.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Davis Martin: Nabs another start
Martin is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Tigers. He'll be making his second straight turn through the rotation following his call-up from Triple-A Charlotte on Sept. 17. Martin proceeded to strike out five while allowing one earned run on three hits and one walk over six innings against this same Tigers team. The 25-year-old right-hander, who owns a 3.78 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 50 big-league innings this season, could make for an appealing streaming option in a rematch with the weak Detroit offense.... White Sox's Davis Martin: Strikes out five batters
Martin did not factor into the decision against Detroit on Saturday, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five batters and walking one over six innings. Martin pitched well enough to earn the win Saturday, but the game went into extra innings. The young righty did earn a quality start in the outing, his first in limited time this season. Martin may have earned another turn in the rotation, as he has had back-to-back impressive outings. In his last two starts, he has given up just one earned run along with six hits and two walks while notching seven strikeouts over 11 innings. His season ERA now sits at 3.78.... See More ... White Sox's Davis Martin: Starting Saturday
Martin will start Saturday's game against the Tigers, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Martin was called up Saturday, and he'll immediately draw a start after Johnny Cueto (illness) was scratched from his scheduled start. Martin threw an inning at Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, so it's possible that he's on a pitch count during Saturday's outing.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Davis Martin: Called up Saturday
Martin was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Martin was sent down by the White Sox in early September, but he'll rejoin the big-league club after Michael Kopech (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday. Martin has made 10 appearances (five starts) for the White Sox this year and has posted a 4.09 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 44 innings. Kopech was slated to start Sunday against the Tigers, and it's not yet clear whether Martin will immediately take his place in the rotation since he tossed an inning at Charlotte on Thursday.... White Sox's Davis Martin: Heads back to Triple-A
The White Sox optioned Martin to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday. Martin's demotion likely signals that the White Sox anticipate Michael Kopech (knee) will be ready to return from the 15-day injured list Wednesday when first eligible to reclaim his spot in the rotation. While making the last two turns through the rotation as a replacement for Kopech -- once as a starter and once as a bulk reliever -- Martin went 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and four strikeouts in eight innings.... White Sox's Davis Martin: Won't start Friday, may still pitch
Martin isn't starting Friday's game against the Twins but could be used as the bulk pitcher behind opener Joe Kelly, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. The rookie right-hander was previously listed as the probable starter for Friday, but Kelly will instead open the contest. The White Sox haven't announced their pitching plans behind Kelly, but Martin could be utilized as the primary pitcher. The 25-year-old has started in five of his nine MLB outings this year and has a 4.62 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB across 39 innings.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Davis Martin: Nabs another start
Martin is slated to start Friday's game against the Twins, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. He'll be making his second straight turn through the rotation as a replacement for Michael Kopech (knee), who remains on the 15-day injured list. In his last outing Aug. 27 against the Diamondbacks, Martin was lit up for five runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks while recording two strikeouts in three innings. He'll take a 4.62 ERA and 1.31 WHIP into Friday's start, his sixth of the season with the White Sox.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Davis Martin: Allows four earned runs in loss
Martin (2-4) took the loss to Arizona on Saturday, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits while striking out two and walking four over three innings. Martin struggled through three innings Saturday, allowing four earned runs and four walks. He did not allow a home run in the contest but walked Carson Kelly with the bases loaded. The righty also struggled with efficiency, tossing 35 of 63 pitches for strikes across three frames. Martin has completed six innings once out of five games started this season, limiting his potential for quality starts. His ERA now sits at 4.85.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Davis Martin: Recalled prior to start
Martin was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte prior to Saturday's start against the Diamondbacks. Martin hasn't made a major-league start since early August but will rejoin the big-league club after Michael Kopech (knee) was placed on the 15-day injured list this week. Martin has posted a 4.25 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 36 innings over eight appearances (four starts) in the majors this year, and it's possible that he remains in the rotation if he performs well Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Davis Martin: Likely starting Saturday
White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Martin is likely to be called up from Triple-A Charlotte to start Saturday against the Diamondbacks, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The 25-year-old last started in the majors in early August and earned the win after giving up one run over 5.2 innings, and it appears he'll rejoin the big-league club this weekend with Michael Kopech (knee) on the injured list. Martin has a solid 4.25 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB across 36 frames in his first taste of MLB this year, and he could stick in the rotation with another solid showing Saturday.... See More ... White Sox's Davis Martin: Demoted after picking up win
Martin (2-3) was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte after earning the win in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Royals. He allowed one run on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk across 5.2 innings. The 25-year-old was called up as the 27th man for the twin bill and started the nightcap, and the only run he gave up came via a solo homer from Vinnie Pasquantino. Martin has a 4.25 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB across 36 innings this season and should remain in the mix for a promotion down the stretch whenever Chicago requires pitching depth.... See More ... White Sox's Davis Martin: Recalled from Triple-A
Martin was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. Martin has made six appearances (three starts) for the White Sox this year, posting a 4.67 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 27 innings. Although he's served exclusively as a starter in the minors this year, he should serve as a multi-inning option out of the big-league bullpen after Parker Markel was outrighted to Charlotte on Friday.... White Sox's Davis Martin: Optioned to Triple-A
Martin was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte following Saturday's doubleheader against the Guardians. Martin operated as the 27th man for the White Sox on Saturday, failing to pitch in either contest before being returned to Charlotte. He'll remain a top option for a potential call-up moving forward.... See More ... See Less
