  • Rays' Joel Kuhnel: Claimed by Tampa Bay

The Rays claimed Kuhnel off waivers from the Brewers on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The right-hander was designated for assignment by Milwaukee over the weekend, and Tampa Bay didn't waste any time scooping him up on waivers. Kuhnel has made just one appearance in the majors this season (with the Astros), but he's pitched well at the Triple-A level with a 2.30 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB across 27.1 innings.

  • Brewers' Joel Kuhnel: Called up from Triple-A

The Brewers selected Kuhnel's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Sunday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Milwaukee designated southpaw Dallas Keuchel for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster for Kuhnel, who will join the Brewers for the second time this season. Kuhnel's previous stint with Milwaukee lasted just one day, as he was called up from Nashville on June 25 before being designated for assignment a day later and eventually accepting an outright assignment back to the Triple-A club.

  • Brewers' Joel Kuhnel: Moved off 40-man roster

The Brewers designated Kuhnel for assignment Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Kuhnel was on the Brewers' 40-man roster and 26-man active roster for one day and didn't make a relief appearance. He can elect free agency if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

  • Brewers' Joel Kuhnel: Contract selected

The Brewers selected Kuhnel's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Kuhnel signed a minor-league deal with Milwaukee on June 11, and he'll now get another shot in the majors after giving up two earned runs while striking out eight batters and walking three through five innings with Nashville. Although the 29-year-old right-hander has found success in the minors this season across the three organizations he's been a part of, his 6.30 career ERA in the majors will likely limit him to low-leverage situations while with the Brewers. Carlos F. Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A to clear space for Kuhnel on the active roster, and Robert Gasser (elbow) was moved to the 60-day IL to free up a 40-man spot.

  • Blue Jays' Joel Kuhnel: DFA'd again

Kuhnel was designated for assignment Friday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports. Kuhnel made his way to Toronto's organization after being DFA'd by the Astros in April, and he'll once again be put on waivers with Friday's move. He'll give way to Ryan Burr -- who was traded from the Phillies on Thursday -- on the 40-man roster. If Kuhnel clears waivers, he'll likely remain in the Blue Jays' farm system.

  • Astros' Joel Kuhnel: Recalled by Astros

Kuhnel was called up by the Astros on Saturday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Kuhnel was acquired from the Reds for cash considerations in mid-June. In 74 career major-league innings, he owns a 6.20 ERA and 1.43 WHIP, so he's unlikely to get anywhere near high-leverage work. Ronel Blanco was optioned in a corresponding move.

  • Reds' Joel Kuhnel: Sent to Triple-A

Kuhnel was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Kuhnel will head to Louisville after cracking the Reds' Opening Day roster last week. The right-hander appeared in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs, surrendering three runs on five hits and a walk over two frames. Considering the fact that he opened the season on the active roster, Kuhnel seems likely to get another shot in the majors before long. In his place, the Reds selected the contract of Kevin Herget.

Kuhnel (shoulder) was optioned to the Reds' alternate summer camp site Friday. Kuhnel had been dealing with shoulder soreness back in spring training, though it's unclear if that's still an issue. He wasn't particularly likely to break camp with the team even if fully healthy, as he's thrown just 9.2 career big-league innings.

Kuhnel is dealing with shoulder discomfort and isn't throwing right now, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Manager David Bell suggested that Kuhnel could resume throwing soon. "Depending on how he's feeling next week will determine whether or not he picks up his throwing program."

  • Reds' Joel Kuhnel: Bullpen candidate

Kuhnel had a nice spring campaign, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings, striking out three against one walk and two hits. He's a dark horse candidate for the Opening Day roster, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Five bullpen spots are spoken for - Raisel Iglesias, Amir Garrett, Michael Lorenzen, Pedro Strop and Robert Stephenson are all safely on the team. The Reds could keep two or three more relievers, most likely three with the new 26-man roster. He throws hard and closed games in the minors, with decent but not elite strikeout numbers.
