Yankees' Art Warren: Signs minor-league deal with Yanks

Warren (elbow) signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Wednesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Warren was designated for assignment by the Reds in mid November and he will now head to New York. In 39 appearances with the Reds in 2022, Warren produced an inflated 6.50 ERA and 1.64 WHIP with 40 strikeouts over 36 innings. The 29-year-old underwent surgery to repair a UCL injury in his throwing elbow in September and is unlikely to be ready for spring training as he recovers.

Combine his health status with his poor performance, and it makes sense that the Reds would remove him from their 40-man roster to start the 2023 season. Warren (elbow) was recalled from Triple-A Louisville and placed on the 60-day injured list Sunday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Warren recently underwent surgery to repair the UCL in his right elbow, so it's not a surprise to see him shift to the 60-day IL in order to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. The 29-year-old doesn't have an official timeline for his return but shouldn't be expected to be ready for spring training.

Warren was on the injured list since early July due to a right flexor pronator strain, but he began a rehab assignment Aug. 6 and has been cleared to rejoin Cincinnati's bullpen. Over his four rehab appearances, he struck out five in four scoreless innings. Now that he's back to full health, Warren should be available to handle occasional setup duties.

Warren was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to July 3 with a right flexor pronator strain.
The extent of Warren's injury is not yet known, but he will be out at least through the All-Star break. Catcher Mark Kolozsvary was called up to take Warren's place on the roster.
Warren (2-2) allowed four runs on three hits and a walk while failing to record an out to take the loss and the blown save Sunday against the Giants.
Warren had been effective over his last four outings, as he tossed 4.2 scoreless innings to earn two saves and a hold during that time. Tyler Mahle carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning Sunday, but Warren surrendered the lead in the top of the eighth inning and was charged with his third blown save of the year. While the right-hander had earned more closing duties recently, he's now converted just three of six save chances this season, and he's posted a 7.27 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 17.1 innings over 19 appearances in 2022. Tony Santillan and Alexis Diaz could see more ninth-inning work following Warren's rough outing.

Warren secured the save Friday during Friday's 5-1 win against the Giants giving up only one hit over 1.2 scoreless innings. He had one strikeout and zero walks.
The right-hander entered with the bases loaded during the top of the eighth inning and hit the first batter he faced, but he then induced a double play to escape with no further damage. The Reds followed with two runs in the bottom of the frame, and Warren returned for the ninth and protected the four-run lead. The 29-year-old has allowed opponents to score in only one of his past nine appearances, and he's notched two saves and a hold with a 1.74 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB across 10.1 innings during that stretch.
Warren struck out one batter in a perfect inning and earned a save over Toronto on Sunday.
Warren needed just nine pitches to quickly finish off the Blue Jays in Sunday's 3-2 victory. He'd blown his previous two save chances since notching a save in his season debut April 10. The 29-year-old lowered his ERA to 6.14 with a 15:9 K:BB through 14.2 frames.
Warren (2-1) blew the save but was credited with the win Tuesday against the Guardians. He gave up a walk and a two-run home run without a strikeout in his inning of work.
The Reds' two-run lead evaporated quickly with Warren on the mound, as he walked the first batter he faced and then served up a homer to Owen Miller. Warren got the win when Cincinnati rallied in the 10th, but it was another shaky outing. He now has a 7.11 ERA this season and could take a back seat to Alexis Diaz in the ninth inning for the time being.

Warren (0-1) blew the save and took the loss Saturday against the Rockies, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks in one-third of an inning.
With Cincinnati holding a lead in the sixth inning, manager David Bell turned to one of his best relievers in Warren in a high-leverage spot. Unfortunately for Warren, his breaking stuff just wasn't breaking in the thin air of Coors Field. The Reds haven't had many leads to protect lately and the last save went to Lucas Sims, so Warren's fantasy viability is limited at the moment.
