  • Orioles' Tucker Davidson: Removed from 40-man roster

Davidson cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Davidson was claimed off waivers last month and signed a major-league contract with the Orioles last week, but he's now off the 40-man roster. The O's are doing some 40-man roster housecleaning ahead of the Rule 5 Draft protection deadline.

  • Orioles' Tucker Davidson: Lands in Baltimore

Davidson signed a one-year contract with the the Orioles on Wednesday. After Davidson was non-tendered by the Royals, the Orioles picked him up via a waiver claim and now have him under contract for 2024. The 27-year-old appeared in 38 games for the Angels and Royals in 2023, posting a 5.96 ERA across 51.1 innings. He'll provide bullpen depth for the O's.

  • Orioles' Tucker Davidson: Goes to Baltimore via waivers

Davidson was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Wednesday. It would appear the Royals didn't plan to tender Davidson a contract and instead tried to outright him, but the Orioles have scooped him up. The left-hander made 38 appearances (one start) between the Angels and Royals in 2023, collecting a 5.96 ERA and 46:19 K:BB over 51.1 innings. Davidson has plenty of past starting experience, but it's not clear at this point what role Baltimore has envisioned for him.

  • Royals' Tucker Davidson: Struggles in time with KC

Davidson pitched to a 5.03 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB over 19.2 innings after he was traded from the Angels to the Royals. Davidson's season ERA stood at 5.96 across 51.1 innings. He made modest improvements with Kansas City, which included him earning two holds, but he rarely saw much high-leverage work. He was used primarily as a started in his 52 innings across 12 appearances in 2022, but he's likely ticketed for bullpen work going forward. Davidson was modestly unlucky this year -- his 4.07 FIP suggests he pitched a little better than the surface numbers show.

  • Royals' Tucker Davidson: Likely serving as opener Monday

Davidson is listed as the Royals' probable starting pitcher Monday in Oakland and is expected to work as an opener in front of bulk reliever Alec Marsh. The Royals haven't clarified their pitching plans for the series opener, but Monday is Marsh's turn in the rotation and he worked behind an opening pitcher in his last outing Wednesday, so it stands to reason that the club will go that route again. Davidson made 11 starts between stops with Atlanta and Anaheim in 2022, but he's pitched exclusively in relief over 24 appearances with the Angels and Royals in 2023. Davidson hasn't covered more than four innings in any of those appearances and hasn't worked more than two innings since the beginning of June, so he's unlikely to stay in the game for more than once through the Athletics' batting order before giving way to Marsh.

  • Royals' Tucker Davidson: Takes extra-inning loss

Davidson (1-2) allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk while striking out one over one inning to take the extra-inning loss Tuesday versus the Mariners. The Royals rallied from three runs down in the ninth inning to force extras, but Davidson gave up a two-run single to Ty France in the 10th. Over 3.2 innings with the Royals, Davidson has yielded four runs (three earned) with a 3:2 K:BB. The southpaw has a 6.62 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB through 35.1 innings between the Royals and the Angels this year. While the Kansas City bullpen is a mess, Davidson hasn't pitched well enough to be considered for a higher volume of leverage situations.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Pushed off 40-man roster

Davidson was designated for assignment Thursday, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports. New acquisition Reynaldo Lopez has officially been activated for the Angels' second game of Thursday's doubleheader versus the Tigers, so roster space needed to be created. Davidson has put up a 6.54 ERA and 31:11 K:BB over 31.2 innings in a long relief role this season.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Shakes off leg injury

Davidson (leg) retired two batters and allowed one earned run on two hits in his most recent relief appearance Friday in the Angels' 5-4 win over the Twins. Davidson had exited his previous relief outing last Tuesday against the Orioles after being struck on the leg by a line drive, but he avoided a serious injury and was available out of the bullpen after just a couple days of rest. The southpaw is expected to serve as a middle-innings or mop-up option out of the bullpen throughout the season.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Takes big hit to ERA

Davidson tossed two-thirds of an inning against Texas on Saturday, allowing seven runs on seven hits and one walk. The game wasn't completely out of reach for the Angels when Davidson entered in the ninth inning, as they were down 3-0 at the time. By the end of the frame, the team had deployed position player Brett Phillips to the mound after Davidson allowed seven straight batters to reach base with two outs. Five of those came around to score while the the southpaw was in the contest, and two more crossed the plate after he departed, resulting in an unsightly seven runs charged to his final tally. Davidson entered Saturday with a 2.25 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over seven appearances -- those numbers are now 5.94 and 1.62, respectively.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Sticking in bullpen, for now

Davidson was bypassed for the start in Wednesday's game against the Nationals, with the Angels instead activating Griffin Canning (groin) from the 15-day injured list to have him take the hill, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Davidson opened the season in the bullpen but had been expected to enter the rotation when the Angels first required a sixth starter this week. However, with Canning progressing quicker than expected from the groin issue that forced him to the IL and then building up to five innings in his lone minor-league rehab start last Thursday, the Angels are opting to keep Davidson in the bullpen for the time being as a multi-inning option. The decision to go with Canning over Davidson for the sixth spot in the rotation became an easier one Monday, when Davidson was needed to cover three frames in relief after Jose Suarez lasted just four innings.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Earns four-inning save

Davidson picked up a save Saturday against Oakland, hurling four scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and one walk while striking out three batters. Davidson will presumably be the Angels' sixth starter the first time the team needs a pitcher to fill that role, but with the Angels getting a day off Friday, the left-hander was tabbed to stretch out in long relief for his season debut. He got through four frames on 41 pitches (25 strikes) and looked good in keeping the Athletics off the scoreboard. Fantasy managers shouldn't read into Davidson's save Saturday as any indication of him jumping into the Angels' unsettled closer situation, so those who roster him for his potential future starts and happened to have him in their lineup this weekend should see this as a happy, but probably one-time, bonus.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Makes Opening Day roster

Angels manager Phil Nevin announced after Saturday's exhibition game against the Dodgers that Davidson will be a part of the Opening Day roster, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports. Davidson will pitch out of the bullpen to begin the year, but he could also be the sixth starter for the club when that becomes necessary. The left-hander is going to be part of the squad at least in part because Griffin Canning is battling a groin injury. Davidson struggled mightily in his limited time with both Atlanta and Los Angeles in 2022 -- the latter appearances coming after he was dealt for Raisel Iglesias at the deadline -- but he will have a chance to stick with the Los Angeles staff to begin 2023.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Competing for final rotation spot

Davidson and Griffin Canning are battling for a role as the Angels' sixth starter, Adrian Garro of MLB.com reports. The two hurlers have been battling it out throughout the spring, and Canning has put up better numbers, posting a 1.32 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings versus Davidson's 5.19 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB across 17.1 frames. One thing working in Davidson's favor, however, is that he is out of minor-league options while Canning is not. Whichever pitcher wins the competition may not see action in a starting role right away, as Angels general manager Perry Minasian said Tuesday that the team is "going to take it day by day, but there's a possibility that sixth spot maybe we don't use it right off the bat ... and if we don't use him right off the bat, he's in the bullpen and provides length there," per Garro.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Gets call for Cactus opener

Davidson will start the Angels' Cactus League opener Saturday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Davidson is completing for the sixth spot in the Angels' rotation, although manager Phil Nevin has indication his sixth starter will serve more of a swingman role this year. The left-hander is out of options, so he seems likely to make the Opening Day roster in some capacity. Davidson's competition this spring includes Jaime Barria, Griffin Canning and Chris Rodriguez.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Walks five in no-decision

Davidson allowed three runs on three hits and five walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Sunday. Davidson threw only 39 of 77 pitches for strikes in an inefficient final start of the season. He was charged with all three of the runs on his line after fading in the fifth inning. The southpaw surrendered 17 runs across 17.2 innings over his last four outings of the campaign. He ends the campaign with a 2-7 record, 6.75 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 33:35 K:BB over 52 innings across 12 appearances (11 starts) between the Angels and Atlanta.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Tosses five innings in loss

Davidson (1-5) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits with three punchouts over five innings against the Rangers. Davidson was the victim of a few timely hits Wednesday, as three of the five baserunners he allowed came around to score. The southpaw's inability to strand runners is emblematic of his season as a whole; if he had enough innings to qualify, his 65.2 percent LOB percentage would be the lowest among starting pitchers this season. He will carry a 6.80 ERA into his next start.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Won't start this weekend

Davison isn't in line to make a start during the Angels' four-game home series with the Mariners that begins Friday. After making his most recent start Sept. 11 in Houston, Davidson's turn in the six-man rotation was expected to come up again this weekend versus Seattle, but the Angels will instead use Thursday's off day to push the lefty to the back of their pitching schedule. Unless the Angels elect to remove Davidson from the rotation entirely, he'll likely make his next start Tuesday or Wednesday in Texas. The southpaw could still be available for a relief appearance in one of the first two games of the series with Seattle this weekend.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Four runs over two innings in loss

Davidson (1-4) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk over two innings in a 12-4 loss to Houston. He struck out two. After recording two scoreless innings to start the game, disaster unfolded for Davidson and the Angels in the third. Mauricio Dubon led off the inning with a home run, and Jose Altuve and Jeremy Pena each recorded singles before Davidson hit Yordan Alvarez to load the bases. Interim manager Phil Nevin then pulled Davidson for Mike Mayers, who surrendered a grand slam to Alex Bregman. Davidson has failed to reach five innings in five of his 10 starts this season and has allowed 22 runs in 27.1 innings since being traded to the Angels. He will carry a 6.96 ERA and 1.78 WHIP into his next start.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Surrenders seven runs in loss

Davidson (2-5) took the loss during Sunday's 9-1 defeat at the hands of the Astros, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Davidson pitched well aside from a five-run second inning during which he surrendered six baserunners, which was enough to sink the lefty. The 26-year-old was efficient in firing 62 of 88 pitches for strikes with 10 whiffs but still issued multiple walks for the third straight outing. Davidson carries a 6.42 ERA and 1.72 WHIP into his next appearance.

  • Angels' Tucker Davidson: Effectively wild Sunday

Davidson did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on three hits and five walks over four innings in an 8-3 win over the Blue Jays. He struck out five. The only damage on the scoreboard against Davidson came on a Matt Chapman double in the fourth inning, but Davidson was all over the place as he allowed five walks on the day. In fact, he was pulled from the game after allowing a walk in the fifth inning. This was his second effort with five walks this season, and he has failed to record fewer than two in any single start. The southpaw will look to find his command in his next start, which is scheduled for next weekend against Houston.
