White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Placed on 10-day injured list
The White Sox placed Meidroth on the 10-day injured list Monday with right thumb inflammation.
Meidroth had to be scratched from Sunday's lineup due to the injury. He revealed Monday that it's something he's been dealing with for a few weeks, dating back to when he was still at Triple-A Charlotte, per Scott Merkin of MLB.com. It's unclear how long he might be sidelined. Chicago is likely to use Jacob Amaya and Lenyn Sosa as its primary middle infielders while Meidroth is sidelined.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Remains out of lineup Monday
Meidroth (thumb) remains out of the lineup for Monday's game in Boston.
Meidroth had to be scratched from Sunday's lineup due to right thumb inflammation. He did appear as a defensive replacement Sunday, so it appears swinging a bat is the biggest issue for him. The White Sox have Jacob Amaya at shortstop and Lenyn Sosa at second base in Monday's series finale.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Enters as defensive replacement
Meidroth (thumb) entered Sunday's game against the Red Sox as a defensive replacement in the eighth inning.
Meidroth was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to tight thumb inflammation, but his ability to enter the game as a defensive replacement suggests the issue is minor. He has served as the White Sox's leadoff batter in each of his last three starts and has maintained an excellent .387 on-base percentage across his first 31 plate appearances in the majors.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Scratched Sunday due to thumb issue
Meidroth was scratched from Sunday's lineup against Boston due to right thumb inflammation, Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Meidroth had originally been penciled into the starting lineup as Chicago's starting shortstop and leadoff hitter, but the thumb issue will instead have him begin the game on the bench. Jacob Amaya has taken Meidroth's spot at shortstop and is batting ninth while Nick Maton has moved up to the leadoff role.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Three hits, steal in loss
Meidroth went 3-for-5 with one RBI, one run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox.
Meidroth recorded his first career multi-hit game and added his first major-league steal in the fifth inning. Recently moved into the leadoff spot, the rookie is hitting .269 with one RBI, four runs scored, a stolen base and an impressive 5:4 BB:K across 26 plate appearances this season.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Elevated to leadoff spot
Meidroth will start at second base and bat leadoff in Thursday's game against the Athletics.
It's the first time Meidroth has batted higher than fifth since he was promoted last week, but it felt like only a matter of time before the White Sox put the 23-year-old and his on-base skills in the leadoff spot. Meidroth is 4-for-14 with a 22.2 percent walk rate in his first five major-league contests.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Reaches base four times in debut
Meidroth went 1-for-1 with three walks and a run scored Friday against the Red Sox.
The White Sox selected Meidroth's contract before Friday's game, and he slotted in seventh in the order while playing second base. He enjoyed a strong debut, which was indicative of his high-contact and patient approach at the plate. He offers limited power but could contribute double-digit steals with regular playing time.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Headed to Chicago
The White Sox selected Meidroth's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
To make room for Meidroth on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated Justin Anderson for assignment. Meidroth was acquired from the Red Sox in the Garrett Crochet trade during the offseason, and he's now headed to the big leagues after slashing .267/.450/.600 with three home runs, four RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases across 40 plate appearances at Triple-A. Meidroth is expected to see the bulk of his playing time at shortstop.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Headed to big leagues
The White Sox are expected to call up Meidroth from Triple-A Charlotte, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Acquired from the Red Sox over the offseason in the Garrett Crochet trade, Meidroth earned the promotion by slashing .267/.450/.600 with three home runs, two stolen bases and a 5:8 K:BB over his first nine contests with Charlotte. He has played both second base and shortstop with Charlotte, but each of his last four starts there have come at shortstop, and that's likely the position where the White Sox intend to use him. The White Sox will need to make space on their 40-man roster in order to add Meidroth.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Fails to make Opening Day roster
The White Sox reassigned Meidroth to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Meidroth got plenty of run at shortstop this spring but managed just a .492 OPS in 16 games. The 23-year-old still has a good chance to spend a large chunk of the season in the big leagues, but for now he'll head to Charlotte. Jacob Amaya appears in line to serve as Chicago's Opening Day shortstop.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Hitting leadoff regularly of late
Meidroth has started at shortstop and batted leadoff in two straight Cactus League games for the White Sox and hit leadoff in all six of his exhibition starts in March.
Meidroth missed some time this month with a calf issue but has been getting a long look in the leadoff spot when on the field. The 23-year-old's on-base skills are his best asset, as he boasted a 71:105 K:BB and .437 on-base percentage at Triple-A Worcester with the Red Sox organization in 2024, making him a sensible fit for the leadoff spot. Meidroth also might be emerging as the favorite to start at shortstop for the White Sox, as Colson Montgomery is now in minor-league camp and Brooks Baldwin has been playing more second base and even center field.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Rejoins lineup Wednesday
Meidroth (calf) will start at shortstop and bat leadoff in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Angels, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Meidroth will return to action for the first time since Saturday, when he exited early in a game against the Dodgers due to calf cramps. The brief absence shouldn't dramatically derail Meidroth's chances of making the White Sox's Opening Day roster, which may have improved after Chicago sent infield prospect Colson Montgomery to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday. Brooks Baldwin now looks to be Meidroth's primary competition for the starting shortstop gig, though the White Sox may prefer to deploy Baldwin as a utility man since he's also seen action at second base and in center field this spring.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Exits game due to calf cramps
Meidroth was removed in the fifth inning of Saturday's spring game against the Dodgers due to calf cramps.
Batting out of the leadoff spot and playing second base, Meidroth went 0-for-2 before being replaced by Dominic Fletcher in the bottom of the fifth frame. Meidroth is considered day-to-day with the calf cramps, though the White Sox could take the cautious route and keep him off the field for the next couple of days. Across seven spring games, Meidroth has gone 2-for-14 with five walks, two runs, one double and one RBI.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Good plate discipline in spring
Meidroth has gone 2-for-14 with a double, three strikeouts and five walks in Cactus League games.
Meidroth was acquired as part of the return from the Red Sox for Garrett Crochet and has a chance to win the shortstop job out of spring training. Hits haven't fallen in for him, but he's still shown decent ability to make contact while reaching base at a .368 clip. That fits Meidroth's profile as a prospect, as he's known for his hit tool but lacks other tools to make a significant impact on the game.

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Dealt to White Sox
The Red Sox traded Meidroth to the White Sox on Wednesday along with Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery and Wikelman Gonzalez in exchange for Garrett Crochet, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Meidroth, 23, slashed .293/.437/.401 with seven homers, 13 steals and a stellar 71:105 K:BB over 122 games with Triple-A Worcester in 2024. He has experience at second base, third base and shortstop but is best suited for the keystone. Meidroth is not on the 40-man roster but appears close to being major-league ready.

Red Sox's Chase Meidroth: Forces promotion to Double-A
Meidroth was promoted from High-A Greenville to Double-A Portland on Tuesday.
A fourth-round pick in 2022, Meidroth slashed .338/.495/.459 with two home runs and four steals in 20 games at High-A before getting the well-deserved bump to Double-A. His .442 BABIP illustrates that he was playing over his head, but his 34.3 percent hard-hit rate and 5.7 percent soft-hit rate were elite marks that support an above-average BABIP. He split time between second base and third base with the Drive, and his public scouting reports suggest he won't offer much value with the glove.
