  • Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Diagnosed with broken foot

DeLauter was diagnosed Sunday with a fractured fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot and is without a timeline for a return to the Double-A Akron lineup, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.

DeLauter was placed on Akron's 7-day injured list Thursday with what had previously been labeled as a left foot sprain, but further testing revealed that the young outfielder fractured the foot. It's a concerning setback for the 22-year-old, who underwent surgery in January 2023 to repair a fracture in the same foot. The Guardians haven't revealed whether DeLauter will require surgery this time around, as he'll visit with a specialist Wednesday before his next steps are determined. Even if DeLauter is able to avoid surgery and treat the injury through rest and rehab, he's still likely several weeks away from returning to action for Akron.

  • Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Goes on Double-A injured list

DeLauter was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Akron on Friday due to a left foot sprain.

DeLauter has had issues with the same foot dating back to college and had to undergo surgery last January to repair a fracture. It's not clear whether this injury is related to his previous problems, but Mandy Bell of MLB.com reported earlier this week that the Guardians don't seem overly concerned and expect DeLauter to miss only a handful of games. The top prospect has gotten off to a rough start this season with Akron, slashing just .197/.296/.295 with one home run and one stolen base over 16 games.

  • Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Opening year at Double-A

DeLauter will open the year with Double-A Akron, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.

Despite logging a 1.640 OPS in 25 spring at-bats and a .914 OPS in 87 at-bats in the Arizona Fall League, DeLauter will be given a soft assignment to Akron, which is where he finished the 2023 season. Injuries have limited DeLauter to 80 pro games (including the AFL) since getting drafted in 2022, but he could force a quick promotion to Triple-A Columbus if he meets expectations.

  • Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Done playing in big-league ST games

DeLauter will not play in any more big-league spring training games this season, manager Stephen Vogt told Christopher Dellacese of 19 News.

DeLauter was in minor-league camp but was able to make 30 plate appearances with the big club this spring, slashing .520/.600/1.040 with four home runs and more walks (five) than strikeouts (four). He will likely head to Double-A or Triple-A as a 22-year-old and could be up playing on an everyday basis for the big club sometime in the first half.

  • Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Making impact in spring

DeLauter has gone 4-for-8 with a solo home run and two runs scored over five Cactus League games.

DeLauter is smashing the ball in spring, but it's unlikely he completely skips Triple-A, especially since he has just six games at Double-A under his belt. It seems likely the outfielder will begin the year with Double-A Akron, and he's a good bet to advance to Triple-A Columbus in the summer.

  • Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Promoted to Double-A

DeLauter has been promoted from High-A Lake County to Double-A Akron, Guardians Prospective reports.

The No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 Draft, DeLauter recovered from an ankle injury to hit a blistering .366/.403/.549 for Lake County over 42 games. Akron has just one series remaining this season, but the Guardians wanted to give the top prospect a quick look at a higher level before the schedule runs out.

  • Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Returns to action for Lake County

DeLauter (ankle) started in right field and went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in his return to the lineup for High-A Lake County in Friday's 5-4 win over Beloit.

DeLauter was sidelined for about a week and a half with a left ankle sprain but was never placed on the 7-day injured list. The 21-year-old opened the season on Lake County's 60-day IL, but he's produced an outstanding 1.201 OPS in 12 games for the affiliate since he was activated June 29 after completing a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
