White Sox's Oscar Colas: Booted from 40-man roster
The White Sox designated Colas for assignment Wednesday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Colas got a big signing bonus from the White Sox in January of 2022 after defecting from Cuba and had a nice first season in the minors, but things have trended poorly since then. The 26-year-old has hit only .223/.271/.309 in 88 games at the major-league level and will likely pass through waivers unclaimed.

White Sox's Oscar Colas: Starting season in Charlotte
Colas didn't make the White Sox's Opening Day roster and will be optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Colas missed nearly two weeks of action due to a sprained right wrist he suffered March 6, but he returned to go 0-for-1 with a walk in Wednesday's contest. He'll finish Cactus League play 4-for-16 with an RBI and two runs scored and will now return to Charlotte for the start of the new campaign.

The fact that the White Sox have labeled Colas day-to-day suggests that his injury isn't too severe, though he may still need to sit out for a few exhibition games. White Sox's Oscar Colas: Could get look at first base
The White Sox may test out Colas at first base during spring training, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
As Romero noted, a move from the outfield to first base could improve Colas' odds of making Chicago's Opening Day roster. Colas saw just 13 games of big-league action last season. He slashed .273/.368/.273 with just four RBI and zero extra-base hits across 38 plate appearances. The White Sox have a plethora of capable outfielders, including Andrew Benintendi, Luis Robert, Mike Tauchman, Austin Slater, Miguel Vargas and Dominic Fletcher. Colas would give Chicago a left-handed bat to pair with Andrew Vaughn at first base.
