Player Outlook
Josh Rojas was the Mariners' Opening Day third baseman last season and came out of the gate firing on all cylinders with a .938 OPS, three home runs and two stolen bases in April. Unfortunately, he then proceeded to slash just .208/.285/.301 over the final five months and was non-tendered as a result. Rojas did grade out superbly on defense for the second straight year, but he also posted a .641 OPS for the second year in a row and again ranked as a below-average runner. He's a versatile defender with a career 10 percent walk rate, but Rojas has never had much power and if the speed continues to go in the wrong direction as he enters his 30s, it's difficult to see a path to fantasy relevance. He should receive plenty of opportunities after signing a one-year deal with the White Sox, and he's a likely trade candidate with a strong first half in 2025.

  • White Sox's Josh Rojas: Minimal progress

Rojas (toe) is still experiencing pain while moving side to side in cleats, MLB.com reports. Rojas hasn't made much progress in his recovery from a hairline fracture, though it was noted that he felt okay doing work on turf. He isn't expected to be able to return until early May.

  • White Sox's Josh Rojas: Not ready for rehab games yet

Rojas (toe) is not close to beginning a rehab assignment, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. The veteran infielder is working his way back from a hairline fracture in his right big toe. While Rojas is eligible to return from the 10-day injured list Friday, he looks like he'll need more time before making his season debut. Once healthy, Rojas is in line to serve as the White Sox's regular second baseman.

  • White Sox's Josh Rojas: Lands on shelf

The White Sox placed Rojas (toe) on the 10-day injured list Thursday. Rojas is working his way back from a hairline fracture in his right big toe, an injury he sustained in mid-March. While Rojas is on the mend from the injury, the White Sox will likely turn to Lenyn Sosa and Brooks Baldwin to pick up most of the starts at second base.

  • White Sox's Josh Rojas: Likely out Opening Day

Rojas (toe) remains out of Chicago's spring lineup Sunday and is likely to begin the season on the injured list, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The 30-year-old sustained a hairline fracture in his right big toe in mid-March, and it appears he won't have enough time to get healthy before Thursday's season opener. Once healthy, Rojas is expected to operate as the primary second baseman against right-handed pitching for the White Sox. Lenyn Sosa and Brooks Baldwin are the main candidates to fill in at the keystone in the meantime.

  • White Sox's Josh Rojas: Exits game with big toe injury

Rojas left in the fourth inning of Saturday's spring game against Colorado due to soreness in his right big toe. Rojas went 0-for-2 before being replaced by Jordan Sprinkle at third base. An update on Rojas' injury should be made once he undergoes further testing. Rojas had gone 10-for-30 with two walks, two RBI and six runs scored in spring training heading into Saturday's game.

  • White Sox's Josh Rojas: Projected to start at second base

Rojas is expected to begin the regular season as the White Sox's second baseman, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Rojas joined the White Sox this winter and is one of the few established veterans who is projected to be on the Opening Day roster. While he's played the majority of his career at third base, he's also been roughly an average defensive second baseman. Rojas has also had a decent spring at the plate, maintaining a .304 batting average with two extra-base hits and two stolen bases across 23 at-bats.

  • White Sox's Josh Rojas: One-year pact with ChiSox

The White Sox agreed to terms with Rojas on a one-year contract Thursday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. It's a good landing spot for playing time for Rojas, who should see close to everyday at-bats in Chicago between second base, third base and shortstop. The 30-year-old slashed just .225/.304/.336 with eight home runs and 10 stolen bases across 474 plate appearances for Seattle in 2024. If Rojas bounces back offensively in 2025, he's a likely trade candidate at the deadline.

  • Josh Rojas: Non-tendered by Seattle

The Mariners non-tendered Rojas on Friday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Rojas will enter free agency coming off a 2024 regular season in which he slashed .225/.304/.336 with 10 stolen bases, eight home runs and 31 RBI over 474 plate appearances. The 30-year-old will look to catch on with a team in need of a lefty-hitting infielder.

Rojas is absent from Friday's lineup against the Athletics, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports. With the A's sending southpaw JP Sears to the mound Friday, the lefty-hitting Rojas will begin the game on the bench. Luis Urias will start at third base and bat eighth.

Rojas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. After starting in each of the previous three contests, the lefty-hitting Rojas will retreat to the bench while the Rangers send southpaw Andrew Heaney to the hill. Dylan Moore will replace Rojas as the Mariners' third baseman.

  • Mariners' Josh Rojas: Belts eighth homer Friday

Rojas went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI sacrifice fly in a win over the Rangers on Friday. Julio Rodriguez stole the show with a two-homer, five-RBI outburst, but Rojas made some noise of his own out of the bottom of the order. Rojas left the yard for the first time in 25 games -- a stretch that dated back to Aug. 18 -- with his 390-foot shot to right center in the third inning that opened the scoring on the night. The veteran infielder has been hitting lightly of late, however, and he'd recorded just a pair of knocks over the 25 plate appearances covering the seven games prior to Friday.

  • Mariners' Josh Rojas: On base three times in loss

Rojas went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and one run scored in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Angels. The infielder hasn't been a big threat on the basepaths this year, going 9-for-13 on stolen-base attempts. Rojas has added a .234/.315/.351 slash line, seven home runs, 26 RBI, 44 runs scored, 18 doubles and two triples over 410 plate appearances, mainly serving as a strong-side platoon option at third base.

Rojas isn't in the Mariners' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays. With Jeffrey Springs set to begin Tuesday's contest for the Rays, the left-handed-hitting Rojas will step out of the starting nine. In his place, Dylan Moore will cover the hot corner while batting eighth.

  • Mariners' Josh Rojas: Keeps rolling Monday

Rojas went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run in a win over the Rays on Monday. After delivering a two-hit effort that also included a steal as a late addition to Sunday's lineup, Rojas drew another start at the hot corner and kept up the productivity. The 30-year-old's two-bagger was only his second extra-base hit of August, but after a dreadful start to the month, he's now sporting a .269 average and .745 OPS across the 28 plate appearances covering his last eight games.

  • Mariners' Josh Rojas: Busy afternoon in Sunday's win

Rojas went 2-for-3 with an RBI single, a walk, a stolen base and a run in a 4-3 win over the Giants on Sunday. Rojas was a late addition to the lineup after Luke Raley (undisclosed) was scratched shortly before the first pitch. Rojas ended up being a key contributor, as his sixth-inning RBI single provided Seattle with a key insurance run. Despite Sunday's success, August has mostly been a washout for Rojas, however -- he's still sporting just a .167 average and .460 OPS this month across 59 plate appearances while recording a sole extra-base hit in that span.
