  • Padres' Mason McCoy: Lands on injured list

The Padres placed McCoy on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a sprained finger on his left hand. McCoy is 0-for-5 with three strikeouts since being recalled from Triple-A on April 21, and he'll now need to wait at least 10 days before getting another chance to record his first big-league hit of the season. Luis Arraez (concussion) will return from the injured list Tuesday to make up for the loss of McCoy in San Diego's infield.

  • Padres' Mason McCoy: Recalled by San Diego

The Padres recalled McCoy from Triple-A El Paso on Monday. The move corresponds with the Padres placing Luis Arraez (concussion) on the 7-day injured list. McCoy wasn't able to crack the Opening Day roster and started the 2025 season in Triple-A, where he is slashing .328/.425/.522 with two stolen bases, 13 runs scored, one home run and 16 RBI in 81 plate appearances. He appeared in 19 regular-season games (16 starts) for the Padres in 2024, all at shortstop.

  • Padres' Mason McCoy: Will not be on roster

McCoy is not projected to make the Padres' Opening Day roster, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. McCoy was added to the 40-man roster over the weekend, but he has minor-league options remaining and the Padres will use one to send him to Triple-A El Paso. He will provide utility depth in the minors.

  • Padres' Mason McCoy: Back in San Diego as NRI

The Padres re-signed McCoy to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Russell Dorsey of Yahoo Sports reports. McCoy was non-tendered by San Diego last month but now returns as a spring training invitee. The utility player put up a .523 OPS in 19 games with the Padres in 2024.

  • Mason McCoy: Let go by San Diego

The Padres non-tendered McCoy on Friday. McCoy spent most of the 2024 regular season with Triple-A El Paso, where he slashed .260/.329/.382 with 25 stolen bases, five home runs and 50 RBI over 432 plate appearances. McCoy did manage to make 19 major-league appearances for the Padres and had a slash line of .204/.278/.245 with one stolen base and three RBI over 57 plate appearances. The 29-year-old shortstop could return to the Padres on a minor-league deal and compete for a roster spot in spring training.

  • Padres' Mason McCoy: Loses everyday role

McCoy is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. On the bench for the fifth game in a row, McCoy appears to have lost hold of his everyday gig at shortstop in the absence of Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder). Even though Kim remains on the injured list, the Padres have opted to shift Xander Bogaerts from second base to shortstop to open up regular playing time in the infield for Donovan Solano.

  • Padres' Mason McCoy: Cut from big-league camp

The Padres reassigned McCoy to minor-league camp Monday. McCoy reached the big leagues for the first time in 2023 as a member of the Blue Jays, appearing in six games but logging just one plate appearances. He was moved off the Blue Jays' 40-man roster in September and caught on with the Padres on a minor-league deal in November, but the Friars likely don't envision the 28-year-old serving as anything more than organizational infield depth this season. McCoy is expected to report to Triple-A El Paso to begin the season.

  • Blue Jays' Mason McCoy: Outrighted to Triple-A

Toronto outrighted McCoy to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday. McCoy was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Wednesday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 28-year-old infielder has logged only six career plate appearances at the MLB level and holds a .693 OPS this season at Triple-A.

  • Blue Jays' Mason McCoy: Sent down to Triple-A

McCoy was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports. The utility player is the roster casualty as the Blue Jays bring back Bo Bichette from the injured list. McCoy was hitless in two plate appearances during his brief time in the majors.

  • Blue Jays' Mason McCoy: Contract selected by Toronto

The Blue Jays selected McCoy's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday. The 28-year-old was acquired by Toronto from Seattle in exchange for Trent Thornton in late July and will now have the chance to make his major-league debut. McCoy has a .572 OPS in 21 games since joining Buffalo but fared better with the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate with a .737 OPS. He'll provide some defensive versatility after Bo Bichette (quadriceps) landed on the injured list but may not see much playing time.

  • Blue Jays' Mason McCoy: Headed to Toronto

The Blue Jays acquired McCoy from the Mariners on Wednesday in exchange for Trent Thornton, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. McCoy, 28, is in his third full year at the Triple-A level in 2023, having put up a .737 OPS with 11 homers and 20 stolen bases at Tacoma. He's capable of playing every position but pitcher and catcher and will provide the Blue Jays with some utility depth at Triple-A Buffalo.
