  • Twins' Edouard Julien: On bench versus lefty

Julien is out of the lineup for Thursday's season opener in Kansas City.

The Royals are throwing left-hander Cole Ragans, so Julien will yield to the right-handed hitting Kyle Farmer at second base. While it might not be a strict platoon at the keystone, Julien seems likely to be on the bench at least against tougher southpaws like Ragans.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Back in action Monday

Julien (wrist) will serve as the Twins' designated hitter and leadoff batter in Monday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta.

Julien exited early in his last spring appearance Friday versus the Pirates after being hit by a pitch on the right wrist, but he escaped with nothing more than a bruise. After taking the weekend off to let the pain subside, Julien feels well enough to check back into the lineup, albeit in a non-defensive role. Following a promising rookie campaign, Julien has gotten off to a strong start to the spring with a .421/.476/.789 slash line through eight Grapefruit League games.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Bruised wrist after hit-by-pitch

Julien left Friday's Grapefruit League loss to Pittsburgh in the first inning after getting hit in the right wrist by a pitch. "It did turn black and blue immediately," manager Rocco Baldelli told Phil Miller and La Valle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "but he was doing OK and has good strength."

It doesn't sound like a serious injury, but Julien may be sidelined a few days as a result. Julien is having a strong spring, hitting .421 (8-for-19) with two home runs. He had an outstanding rookie season with a .381 OBP and drew walks at a near league-leading 15.7 percent clip. However, he hit just .195 with a .447 OPS against left-handed pitching. Julien will become the primary starter at second base after the trade of Jorge Polanco but will likely be platooned with Kyle Farmer.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Works to improve against lefties

Julien worked in the offseason to limit his front shoulder from flying open during swings against lefties, the Bobby Nightingale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "I changed a couple of things in my swing to adjust to the slider and be able to hit the fastball against lefties," he said earlier this week. He's 6-for-10 with a walk in four games this spring and 2-for-5 against left-handed pitching. He went 2-for-3 with a home run in Friday's Grapefruit League win over Boston.

Julien had an outstanding rookie season with a .381 OBP and drew walks at a near league-leading 15.7 percent clip. However, he hit just .195 with a .447 OPS against left-handed pitching. Julien will become the primary starter at second base after the trade of Jorge Polanco but will likely be platooned with Kyle Farmer. If Julien can show improvement against left-handed pitching, he could take over everyday duties.

Julien is out of the lineup for Game 2 of the ALDS against the Astros on Sunday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Julien went 3-for-5 with a double, a two-run home run, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Saturday's victory over the Rockies.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Gets breather Friday

Julien is not in the lineup Friday against the Rockies.

This looks to be a planned day of rest for Julien, who boasts an .825 OPS with 15 homers and three steals through his first 107 major-league games. Christian Vazquez will serve as the Twins' designated hitter Friday at Colorado. Donovan Solano is batting leadoff.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Belts 15th homer

Julien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the A's in Wednesday's 6-4 victory.

Julien began the Twins' half of the first inning with a bang, smacking a solo shot to right field. The long ball snapped an 0-for-11 stretch over his past four games and was his first extra-base hit since Sept. 17. Though he's somewhat faded down the stretch, Julien has still produced a solid .262/.380/.452 slash line with 15 homers, 33 RBI, 58 runs and three stolen bases through 393 plate appearances in his first season in the majors.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Goes deep in victory

Julien went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk Thursday in a 10-2 victory versus the White Sox.

Julien and Royce Lewis provided the Twins with some rookie power in the fourth frame, with each of the young stars producing a solo shot. Like Lewis, Julien is up to 13 homers on the campaign, and he's gone deep twice in his past three contests. Overall, Julien is slashing a solid .270/.382/.460 with 27 RBI, 51 runs and three thefts across 347 appearances in what has been a strong first big-league season.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Sits against southpaw

Julien will hit the bench Saturday against the Mets.

Julien has only started five games against southpaws all season, so it's no surprise to see him on the bench here against David Peterson. While he's crushed righties to the tune of an .885 OPS, his .452 OPS in a tiny sample of 42 plate appearances against lefties means he's unlikely to advance beyond a platoon role any time soon. Kyle Farmer enters the lineup, starting at third base while Royce Lewis rests his legs in Julien's usual designated hitter spot.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Scores three times in blowout

Julien went 0-for-3 with three walks and three runs in Monday's 20-6 win over the Guardians.

Though he was one of only two Twins starters who failed to record a hit in the blowout victory, Julien still got the job done atop the order thanks to his patient eye at the plate. Since returning to the lineup Aug. 16 following a brief absence due to a hamstring injury, Julien is getting on base at a .377 clip and is batting .275, despite striking out at a 36.1 percent clip.

  • Twins' Edouard Julien: Idle vs. lefty

Julien is not in Saturday's lineup against the Rangers.

Julien's last start against a lefty came Aug. 20, and he'll begin this contest on the bench with southpaw Jordan Montgomery on the hill for Texas. Kyle Farmer draws the start at the keystone, batting sixth.
