  • Blue Jays' Hagen Danner: Opening season in minors

The Blue Jays optioned Danner to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. Danner reached the big leagues for the first time last August, but the right-hander suffered a left oblique strain in his Blue Jays debut and was subsequently shut down for the season. He was fully healthy upon reporting to spring training, but the team likely wants to see the 25-year-old stack together some quality innings at the Triple-A level before making him a more permanent fixture in the big-league bullpen.

  • Blue Jays' Hagen Danner: Moved to 60-day IL

Toronto transferred Danner (oblique) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Friday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports. Danner suffered a left oblique strain in mid-August and it will wind up being a season-ending injury for the 24-year-old right-hander. He pitched well this summer in the upper minors and should be in the conversation for an Opening Day bullpen job leading into 2024.

  • Blue Jays' Hagen Danner: Leaves appearance with injury

Danner was removed from an appearance Friday versus the Cubs with an apparent back injury, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Danner was making his major-league debut and wound up facing and retiring just one batter before grabbing at his back/side area and eventually walking off the field. The Blue Jays should have more on the 24-year-old reliever shortly, but he could be headed for an injured list stint.

  • Blue Jays' Hagen Danner: Promoted to Triple-A

The Blue Jays promoted Danner to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports. Danner made his Double-A debut earlier in May and has recorded a 3.00 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over nine innings. The 24-year-old reliever will likely remain in Triple-A for the rest of the year, but he could see time in the majors if he continues to mow through batters.

  • Blue Jays' Hagen Danner: Cleared for Double-A debut

Double-A New Hampshire reinstated Danner (forearm) from its 7-day injured list Wednesday. The 24-year-old reliever was sidelined for just under a month to begin the season due to right forearm inflammation. He received the green light to join New Hampshire after he made a pair of one-inning rehab appearances at Single-A Dunedin, striking out five while allowing one earned run on one hit and two walks.

  • Blue Jays' Hagen Danner: Makes first rehab appearance

Danner (forearm), who has resided on Double-A New Hampshire's 7-day injured list since April 6, made a rehab outing with Single-A Dunedin on Thursday. He struck out two and allowed one run on one hit and two walks over one inning. Danner also threw two wild pitches in the appearance and ultimately needed 30 pitches just to record three outs. Some rustiness was to be expected after he had been sidelined since early March with right forearm inflammation, so the 24-year-old could stick around with Dunedin for another appearance or two before moving up to New Hampshire.

  • Blue Jays' Hagen Danner: Dealing with forearm inflammation

Danner is battling right forearm inflammation and won't throw for the next few days, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports. Danner's injury isn't considered serious enough to require an MRI, but it will nonetheless cost him some time this spring. Danner converted from catcher to reliever prior to the 2021 season and recorded a 2.02 ERA across 35.2 innings for High-A Vancouver that year, but injuries limited him to just four appearances last season.

  • Blue Jays' Hagen Danner: Sent to minor-league camp

The Blue Jays optioned Danner to their minor-league camp Monday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports. The 23-year-old was viewed as a potential two-way prospect when Toronto drafted him in the second round of the 2017 first-year player draft, but he's since made the full-time switch to pitching after enduring injuries and struggling to keep his strikeouts in check while playing catcher over his first three years in the minors. Danner turned heads while operating as a reliever at High-A Vancouver in 2021, holding opposing batters to a .171 average while registering a 2.02 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB in 35.2 innings. The right-hander will likely open the 2022 campaign at Double-A New Hampshire or Triple-A Buffalo.
