Bailey is out of the lineup Friday against the Dodgers. Blake Sabol will catch and bat eighth for the Giants. Bailey has enjoyed some promising stretches this season, but the 24-year-old is slashing just .127/.172/.146 with 21 strikeouts in 58 plate appearances since the beginning of September.... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Sitting amid slump
Bailey is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Padres. Blake Sabol will start at catcher and bat eighth against the Padres and right-hander Seth Lugo. Bailey went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Monday's series opener and is slashing just .130/.190/.148 over his last 58 plate appearances dating back to Aug. 30.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Receives Sunday off
Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey started the past two games and will take a seat for Sunday's series finale in Los Angeles. Blake Sabol will step in behind the plate and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Back from concussion IL
Bailey was activated from the 7-day concussion injured list Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. With his concussion symptoms subsided, Bailey has rejoined the Giants following a minimum absence and will do his best to aid the club in its quest for a playoff spot. Joey Bart was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Taking seat Friday
Bailey is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest against Atlanta, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Atlanta is starting Spencer Strider, so Bailey probably didn't put up too much of a fight when he was told he was getting a day off. Blake Sabol will do the catching for Logan Webb.... See More ... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Getting breather Wednesday
Bailey is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's tilt against the Rays, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The Giants and Rays are playing a day game after a night game, so Bailey will get an opportunity to rest. Blake Sabol will do the catching for the Giants in the series finale.... See More ... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Not starting Tuesday
Bailey isn't in the Giants' lineup Tuesday against the Angels, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. After going 4-for-6 with four RBI and two runs scored over his last two games, Bailey will catch a breather Tuesday. Blake Sabol will take over behind the plate and bat sixth.... See More ... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Delivers go-ahead knock
Bailey went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, three RBI and a run scored in Monday's 8-3 win over the Angels. Bailey opened the scoring with an RBI single in the fourth inning and added a two-run double in the ninth to put the Giants ahead for good. This was his fourth multi-hit effort in his last seven games, a span in which he's gone 7-for-21 (.333). The rookie catcher continues to impress defensively while holding his own with a .262/.307/.414 slash line, five home runs, 35 RBI, 19 runs scored, 15 doubles and a stolen base through 61 contests this season.... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Resting Saturday
Bailey will be on the bench Saturday against the Nationals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey burst onto the scene with a .904 OPS in his first 33 games, but he's hit a wall since the start of July. In 14 games this month, he's hitting .125/.176/.167 with 17 strikeouts and just one walk. Blake Sabol starts behind the plate for the fourth time in nine games since the All-Star break.... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Notches first big-league steal
Bailey went 1-for-5 with one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 6-4 win over the Pirates. Bailey was effective on both sides of the stolen-base equation Friday, as he also threw out Tucupita Marcano in the third inning. Bailey's theft was the first in his career, and as a catcher, he shouldn't be expected to run frequently. He's also slashing .290/.320/.483 with five home runs, 27 RBI, 15 runs scored, 11 doubles and a triple over 41 contests, though he's hitting a light .167 in July.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Belts go-ahead homer
Bailey went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Friday's win against the Mets. Bailey's eighth-inning shot gave the Giants the late lead. He's gone 11-for-29 (.379) with five extra-base hits and six RBI over his last eight games. The rookie catcher is now slashing .322/.347/.557 with five homers in 33 career MLB games.... See More ... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Mashes fourth homer
Bailey went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 8-5 win over the Diamondbacks. Bailey is off to a good start since getting called up to the big leagues May 19. The 2020 first-round pick is slashing .330/.361/.560 so far, and he is quickly proving to be a worthy fantasy option. His four total homers aren't eye-popping, but his contact hitting has been excellent, as he has hits in 10 of his 15 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Out of Sunday's lineup
Bailey is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey started the past five games and will receive a well-deserved day off Sunday. Blake Sabol will take over behind the plate and bat seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Swats third homer
Bailey went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 11-3 win over the Cardinals. He launched a solo shot off Genesis Cabrera in the sixth inning, going back-to-back with Mike Yastrzemski to blow open what had been a 6-2 game. Bailey continues to solidify his hold on the Giants' starting job behind the plate, and since his promotion in mid-May he's slashing .323/.353/.585 through 70 plate appearances with three homers and 16 RBI. His 3:19 BB:K and .419 BABIP suggest there will be regression coming for his batting average, however -- which wouldn't be a shocking development for a 24-year-old who batted .225 in High-A only last year.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Three extra-base hits in win
Bailey went 3-for-5 with two doubles, one triple, one RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Rockies. Bailey took advantage of the Colorado air to pummel some extra-base hits. The catcher has logged four multi-hit efforts over his last nine contests, and he continues to see regular playing time behind the dish. He's also struck out 11 times over his last six games, and he's at a 31.6 percent strikeout rate on the year. Bailey has added a strong .309/.321/.545 slash line with two home runs, 13 RBI, six runs scored, five doubles and a triple in 15 games. It's unclear if Bailey's shown enough to stay in the majors once Joey Bart (groin) is activated from the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Not in lineup Sunday
Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey will get a day of rest after starting the first three games of the series against Milwaukee. Blake Sabol will handle catching duties Sunday while Bailey sits.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Promoted to Triple-A
Bailey was promoted to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. After finishing 2022 in High-A and playing just 14 games in Double-A, the 23-year-old backstop is quickly ascending through the Giants' farm system. Bailey slashed .333/.400/.481 over 60 plate appearances with Double-A Richmond. If he's able to keep his hot streak going, there's a chance he cracks the big leagues at some point, though he would have to be added to the 40-man roster before that can happen.... See More ... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Reassigned to minor-league camp
The Giants reassigned Bailey to minor-league camp Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The decision to send down the 23-year-old backstop hardly comes as a surprise, as Bailey has yet to advance past High-A ball. Bailey slashed .225/.342/.419 through 325 plate appearances with High-A Eugene last season and could kick off the 2023 campaign there as well, but there's also a solid chance he gets bumped up to Double-A Richmond for Opening Day.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Receives camp invite
Bailey received an invitation Friday to the Giants' major-league spring training. The 13th overall pick in the 2020 first-year player draft, Bailey will be in big-league camp during his first spring training as a professional. He has yet to make a game appearance due to the cancellation of the minor-league season last year, but he was added to San Francisco's 60-man player pool and worked at the alternate training site....
