Suwinski is not in the lineup Friday against the Reds. Miguel Andujar, Ji Hwan Bae and Henry Davis will start across the outfield as the Pirates take on left-hander Andrew Abbott. Suwinski has slashed just .178/.282/.257 in 117 plate appearances versus southpaws this year.

  • Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Belts homer No. 25

Suwinski went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's victory over Washington. Suwinski jumped on the first pitch he saw from Josiah Gray in the second inning and launched it into the stands in right field for his 25th home run of the season. The center fielder also added a single on the day, giving him his fifth multi-hit game this month, and he's now hit safely in seven straight. Suwinski has been very productive in September, batting .324 with three homers, nine RBI and five runs scored. He's also recorded at least one RBI in six of his last seven games.

  • Pirates' Jack Suwinski: On base four times, swipes bag

Suwinski went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base while drawing two intentional walks during Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Nationals. Suwinski reached base in four of his five plate appearances. He roped a first-inning double down the right-field line, stole second base after a single in the third and later drew a pair of intentional walks. The 25-year-old outfielder has now hit safely in each of his last five games, going 7-for-18 (.389) with three doubles, one home run, five RBI, two runs and three steals during the modest hit streak.

  • Pirates' Jack Suwinski: More consistent contact

Suwinski went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Friday against Atlanta. Suwinski has slumped for nearly the entire second half of the season and had lost playing time as a result. However, with Andrew McCutchen (Achilles) out for the season, Suwinski should take over a strong-side platoon role between designated hitter and the corner outfield. His recent production provides some hope that he can take advantage of the opportunity, as he has three home runs across his last eight games and has limited his strikeout rate to a relatively low 23.1 percent clip in that span.

  • Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Swats two-run homer

Suwinski went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 4-2 win against Milwaukee on Monday. The Pirates were behind by two runs in the fourth inning when Suwinski tied the score with his two-run blast to center field. The long ball was just his second since July 24, a span during which he's slashed a dreadful .141/.286/.263 over 33 contests. Suwinski has struck out at a 35.6 percent clip since the All-Star break, the worst mark among qualified MLB hitters in that span.

  • Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Snaps slump Wednesday

Suwinski went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Royals. Suwinski had gone without a homer since July 24, and he didn't have a multi-hit effort in August prior to Wednesday. While he's been inconsistent, he's starting to get things turned around, hitting safely in five of his last six games, though he also snapped a 10-game RBI drought Wednesday. For the season, the outfielder has 22 homers, 56 RBI, 51 runs scored and nine stolen bases, but he's slashing just .207/.334/.445 through 117 contests. Suwinski will likely remain limited to a strong-side platoon role down the stretch.

Suwinski is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. He'll retreat to the bench while the Twins bring southpaw Dallas Keuchel to the hill for the series finale.
