Giants' Jonathan Bermudez: Removed from 40-man roster
The Giants outrighted Bermudez to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.
San Francisco claimed Bermudez off waivers from the Astros on Aug. 23, only for the Giants to remove him from the 40-man roster just over a week later. He had yet to pitch at any level for the Giants and recorded an 8.55 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over 67.1 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land in Houston's organization prior to being claimed. The 26-year-old lefty will remain with the Giants as a depth arm at Triple-A Sacramento.

Giants' Jonathan Bermudez: Claimed by Giants
The Giants claimed Bermudez off waivers from the Astros on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
It's unclear what the Giants see in Bermudez, who has struggled miserably with an 8.55 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 16 home runs allowed in 67.1 innings with Triple-A Sugar Land this season. Regardless, the 26-year-old figures to join the Giants' Triple-A club.

Bermudez was designated for assignment Saturday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The Astros made room for utility man David Hensley, whose contract was selected from Triple-A. Bermudez was not in the majors and had an 8.55 ERA through 67.1 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land.

Astros' Jonathan Bermudez: Back in action at Triple-A
Bermudez (hip) returned to action for Triple-A Sugar Land on July 22 and has given up eight runs on six hits and three walks while striking out nine over 5.2 innings in his two appearances.
Though he never landed on Sugar Land's injured list, Bermudez was sidelined for about a month with right hip discomfort. The 26-year-old lefty served up three home runs in his first two outings since returning, adding to what has already been a frustrating season. Over his 57.1 innings with Sugar Land in 2022, Bermudez owns an 8.16 ERA and 1.79 WHIP.

Bermudez hasn't taken the mound in over a week, and the hip injury provides an explanation for his absence. The southpaw hasn't been placed on the injured list, but it's not yet clear when he's expected to return to action.

Bermudez was optioned to minor-league camp Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Bermudez was added to the Astros' 40-man roster in November and allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out one in one inning during his lone spring appearance this year. He'll presumably begin the 2022 campaign at Triple-A Sugar Land.
